After finishing HL2 easy and before starting on hard, I bought the old HL Platinum, before I install the old game, my question is, can I use my HL2 Steam account, or do I have to open a new account to install the older HL Platinum?
TY any for help.

no, you keep all your valve games in one account

if you install with the CDs given you dont need steam, but if you register the CD keys on steam then steam can be used

You don't need to use steam at all on HL1, I think.
You do if you want to play online, or any recent mods. I think.

Installing HL1 from the disk will be a non-steam install, as steam wasnt around when this was released.

If you want to use HL1 with steam for, say multiplayer, as you need steam to play hl1dm, then you can use your current steam account. I think the process for registering the CD key is My Games>Browse Games>Register a product I already own, or something similar.
I think if you already have a normal HL1 installation Steam will just convert the current installation to a Steam installation and not download HL1 again through steam; although I am not positive.
