Yes, that is correct! Today I got hired by Sony BMG as a college representative for the my city's area. I'm going to get paid to promote music!
And in late March, Columbia Records is paying for me and all the other college reps to meet up in NYC for some industry talks and previews of upcoming music on all of Sony's labels.
I'm so excited about this! I'm not the biggest fan of major record labels, but I see this as a great opportunity to learn about the music industry and meet a lot of great people.
Music has always been my number one passion in life, and it's great to feel that someday I'll probably be able to make a living on something I love to do.
If you feel passionate about something and you really want to pursue, do not let "real work" get in the way. I am almost 20 and I have yet to hold a full-time job yet, and I'm working for Sony now. I couldn't hold a full-time job for the past two years because I was busy meeting people in the local music scene, volunteering and interning for music venues, writing for local music websites, and being very involved in the local music scene in general. If I hadn't done all these things and met the people that I have, I wouldn't have been hired by Sony BMG today.
Real determination can bring real results.
That's all.
