One World Government

Does anyone else think that one world government is the best and only way for the human race to become rational? It would end wars, poverty, hunger, famine, and the like. Just a thought. If you think I'm wrong, point out some flaws in a one world government. BTW I would want a system based on what Sweden has.

People who don't want a system like Sweden should just suck it up then? You really think forcing every country on earth to adhere to an individual economic system will STOP wars? I know what you are saying and you are right on a philosophical level, but realistically this would never work.

It sounds great and all, and under the right circumstances I would support a one world government, but the way I see it coming into fruition today I would not support. I don't trust the politicians to make a one world government that benefits the common man, they are too corrupt and only interested in themselves.

Now, if a one world government arose like the United States government did then I would support it. Since the founding fathers, the political elite, created a government with the common person in mind. And had to do it in secret so the other political elite wouldn't know, since what they were doing didn't benefit the rich. They even went so far as publishing the records of the the constitutional convention after only one man was left alive, so they wouldn't be targeted.

As I said, I would only support a One World Government if the common persons well-being is in mind. But, that won't happen anytime soon.

I would support a one world government if it was done right. The only way I can think of is a federation (sorta like the USA, but on a global scale, with each nation becoming a state) and even this would cause problems (russia or canada bieng ****ing huge states, who would be in power etc.)
I would think more of a gradual prcoess, sorta like the EU (which could be the beginning)

The political system of Sweden is made for small countries, and I've hard time seeing it applied to the whole world successfully. And as Tyguy pointed out, we have no right to force a political system on people who don't want it.

Horrible idea. And I seriously doubt it would cure anything you listed or have any longevity. Many first-world countries currently have many pockets of poverty, or lack of aid. Do you honestly think a one-world government would have the competence required to distribute all resources fairly and equally? It certainly wouldn't end wars, because we still have cases of in-fighting within nations. Civil wars? Attempts at independence? Governmental overthrow? A one-world government does not have the ability to please everybody, and it is inevitable that it would eventually fracture or dissolve. And the inevitable creep of corruption would frighten me to death, because the people in power would have humongous effects on the entire population.

The only way there could be a one-world government is if it was totalitarian, like the Combine Overwatch. Simply because like what other people have stated, everybody in the world is not simply going to yield to one policy, and you know what they say about dictatorships,
"Absolute power corrupts absolutely". Futhermore, many splinter factions would eventually form, (again, like in HL2), and the central government's military rule would become stretched too thin, thus triggering a global collapse. Nope, a one-world government wouldn't work. At least not in this day and age. HL2 pretty much explained what would happen in a global totalitarian scenario (even though the combine were aliens, it wouldn't make much difference), and I say, "totalitarian only" because that's the only way a central government could "convince" the world population that their policy is right, whether it be through indirect manipulation using propaganda and misinformation or by direct force, or both.(both being the Combine's method in this case seeing how they used Dr. Breen in his Breen casts to spread propaganda and by using the suppression field to "forcibly" control the human reproductive cycle.)

No, Yes, Maybe. However, whatever "Prime Minister/President/Dictator" came to power seeking to destroy the last refuge of imagination, intellectual freedom and personal rights ... he/she could succeed.
