*begins rant*One year ago today was the first time I had ever heard about Half-life 2. I remember it well. I was going off to band camp, and my parents thought it would be a good idea for me to go shopping for last minute stuff before hitting the road.

Well, I was shopping in a boring fasion, and something caught my eye: the june issue of PCgamer. (yes, I know, they're supposed to come a month in advance, but im slow to get these things) Anyway, I thought that I had seen gordon freeman, but I thought little of it, and turned away, then did a double take, and saw the words "HALF-LIFE 2" written on the front. I was so astonished that I jumped. I had never expected to hear or see those words in at least five years. Immediatley, I ran over to the issue (the last one) and bought it.

I read the article on HL2 over and over on the drive to band camp, soaking in the information as much as possible. When I got to band camp, which was at texas tech university, I decided that the best way to get information on HL2 was through the internet. So, I used the universities library computers (which was against the rules) to look for sites related to half-life 2. And, lo and behold, this was the first site I found. I spent all of that band camp coming to the library to read off of this very site (especially the info from valve) and my hype for half-life 2 built and built.

It's amazing how much has happened through the year. I thought that I would be playing half-life2 six months ago; but since the delay, I have become an expert on HL2 trivia. Through it all, this very community has been there. this community has kept the spirit alive for me, and I am still just as excited about half-life 2 as I was one year ago. *ends rant*

I heard before that. I can't believe I have waited this long for anything. I thought the 1.10 patch for Diablo 2 exp would be the longest I would wait for anything.

I was wrong. saddly...saddly wrong.

Why is it that Doom 3 was announced a year before Half-Life 2 but noone cares? But wait a year for Half-Life 2 and it's the longest time to wait in the world EVAR!

Nearly ALL games are announced at least a year before they are released.

Oh boy. That brings back bad memories. I remember waiting from around August 2002 until October 2003 for that bloody patch and by the time it came it I was sick of Diablo 2. Haven't played it for ages.

Blizzard and Valve sure know how to torture.

What instrument do you play? I'm a sousaphone.

tl;dr

hah j/k, I forgot when I heard about HL2, let me see...

Hmm, It was probably from PHL, something like "HL2 ANNOUNCED OMGZ" then I started posting on the Steam forums, in true fashion I still have 500 some posts there, and haven't posted since, hell I still even have my custom title. I then heard about this site from a thread, and joined.

And now I live here.

theotherguy im not sure if ur post is a *rant*
almost as if ur at an AA session and ur confessing to one of those times u really got drunk and did something stupid.. or..well something like that

i remember one fine day in June of 2003.. i had just complete Half Life on hard difficulty for like the 5-6th time... and i was wondering about the ending.. and right then i decided to use my friend "google" and violia!

i discovered this wonderful site

Yeah...1.10 was great when it started. for like the first week. Then it was back to bussiness. Hacks-bitchytraders-13Y/o calling you a noob. What can you do.

HL is a lil different though.

I was in France that year, I was also pasing when I saw the French PC Gamer (much better than the US version, mind you) the letters HL2, I could not believe it, I was shoked.
Plus September 30 seemed so close....

This one time in band camp....

Ah forget it.

P.S. i first heard about it in July 2003 and came and registered on this site, then i forgot who i was so i made me now.

I dont remember how I found out about it, was'nt too hyped about it anyways, I try to not get hyped about something till it goes gold. Then its safe..

I can't remember when I found out about it.

I just remember that some dude had posted a pic in IRC of a crowbar standing diagonally, and you saw its shadow across the floor. The result was that it looked like a two. The guy who posted it was dead sure that it was HL2, but everybody else was skeptical.

A week later... Well, the guy was definitely on to something.

I heard about it when the first scans of some paper came around (PCG I uppose). Was totally amazed by the pics & honestly thought a lot of rooms would be orange :E

Found out about it online, through a gaming site. I was shocked...I had no idea.

I first heard about it when the dutch pczone was supposed to have a 'surprise', and it came out TWO weeks later then normal.

When the pczone came to my house .. it had a mysterious cover with gordon freeman and a crowbar in his hand ..and that was the best pczone I've ever read, next to the review of half-life 1.

well, 20 years ago today. Sgt. Pepper taught a band to play....

Ahh yes, but not every game anounces a guarenteed release date 3 months following the annoncment.

Heard about it May of last year when it was shown at E3, I Promptly pre-ordered it, and searched for a community. I found HL2.net. Registered about a week later when I had decided it was the best site. been lurking for the most part ever since.

I remember starting up steam and seeing the bink vids in there. Woah! I was blown away.

im more hyped about Halo 2 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.... i just dont know why :/

i loved Half-Life =) and Halo...but we will see ;)

Watch the E3 2004 stalker video and all hype will vanish. The game looks like amatuerish rubbish now.

well thats ur opinion :D

you only heard of HL2 by the end of June?

I found out about it like the day it was annouced, dont remember when that was, but even though I was excited, I wasnt a big internet guy at that point, and only followed it loosely till I moved up here to MI and got a good connection and now Im hooked. I lurked here for the longest time starting in August, and when I finally found out how cool it was to be a member and post, I signed up.

And people are only upset at the HL2 wait, because we were given a very optimistic date, and then were shut down. Also, the HL community has the tendancy to get very anal, or so I have observed.

I found out on a gaming site... I couldn't breath for like 10 seconds when I read it :D

What... No it doesn't. What are you talking about?

The day I heard about HL2 was Tuesday, May 20th, 2003.

I saw this thread about HL2 on a local forum hangout. I started downloading the video and then I went to bed. The next day before I went to school I watched it.

I was simply amazed!

Here's the thread that started it all for me:

http://forums.xtremegeeks.com/viewt...postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=halflife+2

You probably have to register.

But so many things have happened between then and now...it's crazy! Just not in the gaming world, just things in general.

Hard to believe I've been waiting this long.

Band camp! :( I remember back in school, we'd always bug the kids that went to band camp. Maybe cause none of the kids in Band were cool. And by cool I meant anything not geeky.

No, I never went to band camp. Or was in Band. :|

Band at my school is mixed with losers/cool people.

Equal share I think.

I found out when it was late at night, and my brother said to me, "Hey Dev, check this out."
'Lo and behold, it was the E3 2003 trailer. I saw that logo... I was like, "omg.. you are kidding"

I never expected to see that, I never even THOUGHT about a half-life 2. I had my jaw dropped the whole time through, and was simply hooked.

I joined a forum much later, HL2 Central, but was banned and joined this one instead, where they atleast let you VIEW the damn forum if you are banned. :p

I waited for doom3 since 2000 so **** the 2 years waiting for hl2.. its a fart in the wind compared with the waiting form doom3

I didn't even watch any of the E3 2003 stuff until the Bink videos of it came out... :O

He means S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I think. Not strider/stalker video.

That's still extreme to day HL2 is rubbish.
It's fair to say S.T.A.L.K.E.R. offers stiff competition, but no more than that as NEITHER OF THEM ARE OUT!
