with great games like SOCOM, EA Sports games for PS2, the upcoming Starwars: Battlefront (which, IMO, looks better than KotOR as of now) and RE: Outbreak, FF XI, and Rainbow Six 3... where do u think this is going? do u think it's the new gaming revolution? or just a passing phaze?

Just a passing phase IMO. Its just too muhc of a hassle for it, and especially for some random console person whos not into PC's at all. The damn controls, just everything is terrible.

God console gaming is a joke....especially the kids who dont really play pc at all, that just play consoles, they dont know how serious and lame cheating is online...Since most people like to use cheats in single player for consoles they really dont think there is a difference online...

THIS IS WHY NFSU IS RUINED.

PC players can play PS2 players online. For ps2 all you need is a gameshark to cheat....thats all.

Trainers work online in NFSU on PC, I tried it once, it was a lol and a half.

I think console gaming is a passing phase unless something less hassle comes along.

did u use the one where ur car goes rocketing around the course at 600+ MPH? that was hilarious, and when i got back into the room the other people were like WTF, and i said lag made me go really fast and then sum mod person claimed i was a cheater, so i changed my name... very funni

And people used to think that a 200 mhz computer and 2 mb of ram was all we would ever need. Of course its a new revolution. Its not hurting the companies as far as I can see, so I'll bet that this only keeps up. After all, technology is all about advancements, is it not?

Definitely a new revolution. If Xbox Live was free it'd be way cooler. Crimson Skies online is so much fun. I was ranked #3 (out of like 11000) a couple days ago for this week...man people play that game a ton. When Halo 2 is released I'm gonna have to get Xbox Live for another year...Crimson Skies, Halo 2, and any other game that comes out with live capabilities... oh man it'll be fun.

I think it's pretty lame how EA has a little deal with PS2 to make their games online only for them... ah well.

As more and more get broadband, I think it'll become more and more mainstream.

Yup, I did that on a newb server, teh lolz.

they don't really have a "deal"... EA wants their online games controlled by EA... but X-Box live centralizes everything w/ stats and such... so EA won't make games online for x-box cause microsoft won't let them control it due to x-box live... and nintendo is just retarded... they only have 1 official online game, PSO... and they've prolonged their online gaming SO much that fans had to reverse engineer lan-based games to get them online... word is there aren't going to be ANY more official online game for GCN til GCN 2.... which, rumored, may come with a broadband connector built in

.

can't you play moh:frontline on xbox live? i mean...i swear i saw someone playing that at this computer gaming place i go to...

i hate consoles, personally...their graphics are always worse than a computer and you have to use a controller...if only halo for xbox was compatible with PC halo for online play...you could rape all the console controller nubs...

So u automatically think all console players sux and are newbs, eh?
j/k Yeah, i dont think u can have more control over a game than a keyboard + mouse

Oh, thats right- halo 2 will be the only good thing to ever happen with online console gaming.

a passing phase. the only good games on consoles IMO are racing and fighting games, and they are better as 1-4 people only. I have a PS2 and a Gamecube, all I play are mario cart, tekken, gran tourismo 3, and a few other games.

computer pwnz consoles everywhere else.

Online console gaming is very cool :)

Whilst PCs are excellent for a few gaming genres, they arn't for many others (sports, driving, fighting etc etc). XBox Live is pretty damn good in this respect :)

//

'...if only halo for xbox was compatible with PC halo for online play...you could rape all the console controller nubs... '

Of course they could - does that mean the game is any better on the PC?? of course it doesn't (Halo XBox > Halo PC) It is so annoying that many believe that easy control is always better .... in many cases, especially single player FPS, using a mouse and keyboard sux ass :/

i dont think its just a phase, but i wouldnt exactly call it a revolution. it just fuels the argument pc >vs < console. i actually have a friend who thinks that the x-box is better than pc because it was made just for games and the pc wsnt, it has better graphics/games, and because its online. he ACTUALLY says to me, that consoles are better than the pc because theyre online !!! aaarrrggghhhhhhhh i need a lie down

Online consoles aren't really a revolution, but they're definately here to stay.
There's a LOT of people out there that just don't use PC's the hardcore geeky way most forumreaders do.

Games need installing, hardware needs configuring; etc etc etc.
For casual players a console is just easy.
Lots of hassle getting it online? LOL, compared to PC online-gaming, signing up for Sony's free network and for example playing a game of SSX3 is a walk in the park.

As for NFSU being ruined by PS2 cheaters: thats just total bullshit, there's cheaters on every platform.
And my guess is PC gamers cheat more than console gamers.

Yeah about the difficulty of getting online with a console.......

For Xbox Live all you do is plug your console in to your modem/PC, turn your Xbox on, stick the disc in the drive and let it configure it all for you. Any problems it encounters it gives you about 4 bullet points on what to try to fix it.

When thats all sorted, joining a game is a piece of piss. Either select quick match to join a game straight away, or use opti-match that gives you a list of servers with your desired game settings.

Downloadable content is automatically saved to the right place, no need to mess about with putting different files in different places.

I agree with crushenator, its bigger than a phase but not as big as a revolution (cos they consoles are playing catch up with PCs), but it still makes gaming more fun and gives games a longer lifetime.

Just a phaze. It is nothing compared to the PC. I am serious thst, soon the PC will overwhelm consoles. Just wait and see. The graphics on consoles stink and are nothing compared to the PC. Nothing.

The gfx may be better on pcs - unfortunately the quality of games (little innovation/imagination, very easy, buggy as sin, poor gameplay, little variety, 'quick save' :/!) pale when compared to many console games. MP2 and CoD being hailed as great games speaks volumes.

This is a shame, the pc was home to originality and quality (clans and tournies being the only area where it still excells)

A mouse and keyboard is great for certain game types - RTS, FPS (single player only) etc It is also terrible for almost everything else. Using a keyboard to move about is very shite:/

Online console gaming is definately not a phase - in some respects it offers far more than online pc gaming (there's no arrogance and rudeness, the communities are young and friendly ........... like it used to be with pc gaming :'( )

The variety of online games is also impressive - you can battle out with a m8 from Japan at Street Fighter, play tennis, show off your snow boarding skills, go for a race or play co-op at Rainbow Six 3 (which, just like Halo, is much better than the pc version) Voice comes as standard is very cool.

I still use my pc more than my consoles, but only because of the ppl in my clan and because console gaming hasn't taken off yet - there's no big leagues or LAN events, no prizes - not even many clans at the mo. This will all change soon.

It's actually going to be the other way around.
Consoles are getting more powerful, and soon the hardware used in gameconsoles isn't going to be the limiting factor when it comes to games and their graphics.

PC's are going to be obselete eventually.
It'll be a while, but still.

how can that be ?? pc's come in larger 'boxes', and so where you have a size limit in consoles, theres a lot of room for case mods and superchips and things. consoles will never permanently surpass pcs, simply for the fact that with the pc, there are mods, and things. also the pc is used for more than just games, and people know theyre exact specs and things.

Try to think outside of your larger, no doubt modded "box", Crushenator.
I'm not talking about when HL2 comes out, or the PS3 or Xbox Next or whatever.

More like, in maybe 10 years from now.
I believe consoles and PC's will merge into something that has the best of both worlds.

It's beginning now actually, with people modding their Xboxes into mediacentres, or to run god knows what kindof software on it. I've seen one dude using his as a router.

I can't wait for the next generation of consoles, just to see where things are going.

hehe... modded. i wish.
all ive got's a standard sony vaio :p
and yeah, i can see were ur coming from, but i still dont think that pc will ever just 'die out'

Warbie. Games can be buggy on the PC because they can be patched. They can't on consoles because they can't be patched. If there is a problem you are stuck with it. Also the quality of the games can be adjusted. That's not a quality of a PC. PC's can do much more than play games too.

So PC games are allowed to be buggy because they can be patched?
BS. I know it happens a lot, but it's not the way it's supposed to be.

Anyways, console games can be buggy as well, and with the new generation of consoles the patching problem you (ray_MAN) addressed will be history.

Like i said before, i think as time passes consoles and PC's will merge into some sort of device that plays games, music, movies etc. And it will take over the customers who are buying a console/PC for those purposes now.

People using a PC professionally now will have more specialized workstations to work on then.

I agree ray_MAN. Leagues and tournaments really need pcs at the mo ...... and just wouldn't work without forums, irc and clan websites. Modding and custom maps also adds to the scene greatly. Imo this is where the pcs strength is (of course they have many other functions outside of gaming).

It doesn't change the fact that games of recent years (bar a handful) have been complete dog turds :/ ...... how long are we meant to put up with the same regurgitated, tired games?? All a pc game seems to need these days is fancy gfx and some ropey physics to sell well ........ not decent gameplay.

Games are still being released unfinished - H&D2, which out of the box didn't work online and was very buggy in single player (the AI is still crappy even after pacthing :/) This just isn't good enough and is hardly present in console games, (which are pushing boundries and defining genres day after day).
