So anyway. I don't really play a whole lot of games online. (56k) But every now and then I like to give it a go, especially at times when I know my connection is pretty good.
My questions are:
1.) When playing an online game, deathmatch whatever, do people with high pings piss you off?
2.) Do people with slow connections actually slow the game down for everyone, or is it just client side?
3.) And on an unrelated note, why are there so many immature jackasses? Really, I can't find a game anywhere that doesn't have somebody TK'ing, or talking like a moron, or just really doing stupid crap.

On a side note, I just bought a new gfx card (cheap one... don't ask) but its better than the one I had, and now I get dx9 stuff, so I went out and bought call of duty, and I love this game. The single player seriously rocks.

hmmm

1)no. except if its client-side hit detect and you shoot to the air.
2) nope. many players sure. but one person with a slow connection, i think not.
3) play AA : operations

and CoD isn't THAT good.

1) I feel sorry for them, so no. But if they're a member of question 3 they piss me off even more.

2) I think it does... but not sure

3) Because when they're online they can act like angry little idiots without the fear of getting their asses kicked.

CoD kicks a copious amount of ass, especially if you like the subject material.
As for the first two, it depends upon the game, some games handle high pings fine and others don't. I do admit to being annoyed when I cannot physically hit a person because they're teleporting all over the screen.
The last comment is more of a complaint against people in general, but I have noticed that the community in most games are slowly maturing as gamers get older and older.

I see, so it really depends then (on whether or not slow connections slow everyone else) I understand the teleporting hit detections thing, that kind of urks me sometimes to. I think most of the immature goofs just need to realise its a game and not a "whos cock is bigger contest" maybe then more people would just have fun.
When I play online i try not even to talk, I just keep my mouth shut and get as many kills as I can so that I can survive longer...
Ah well, you can't chage the world,... can you?

1. high ping gamers do piss me off a little (i'm talking 300 and above here). they're in a sort of permanent bullet time and you can never hit them.

2. ever played Planetside? that suffered from slowdown because there were A. too many 56k users and B. too many people with crappy PCs (or that's the reason i was told for the lag).

3. [stereotype]because most of them are fat 12 year old kids who want to belong and their hormones are raging and they've been wrecked by their country's school system and generally 90% of human beings are dicks anyway[/stereotype] it's one of the reasons why joining a clan is a good idea, because you get to play with like minded people. personally i don't like clanners all that much because there's too much 'politics' for something so trivial as a group of friends playing games together. but if you can find a good group then you'll never go back to public servers.

1. They don't piss me off, I just get a tiny bit upset about them, if they got like 400+ ping.

2. If they have insane amounts of ping , they might.

3. Read Dedalus reply.

I know in Day of Defeat that anyone with over 200 ping is really hard to hit... so I don't like that... luckily, it's rare to see anyone goin' above 150... most of the time, everyone's below 100.

I don't get pissed at people with high pings. In a way it can make us (56k-ers) a little bit better.

I use to [] \/\/ /\/ people with low pings in counter strike.

I aks for two things:

1. That the cable or dsl providers will get off their asses and make it available where I live.

-or-

2. That the game developer's develop a really good netcode.

1. No, people with high pings are easier to dominate. In fact, I respect players who are playing a good game despite their high pings.
2. No, that's a myth. Every player takes a bit of bandwidth away from the server. In fact, low pingers receive more server updates and thus lag the server more then high pingers.
3. Play Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory or RTCW. The average RTCW player is somewhere between 20 and 30 years old. There are very few kids running around, because the game requires skilled teamwork and the anti-cheat software (PunkBuster) is doing its job well.

The only time i don't like people with high pings is when they dont stop complaining, and every time they die they automatically say it was their ping.

Ok fair enough, having a slow connection can get annoying but you dont ahve to tell the world about it every 5 minutes. Also, contrary to what you might think, not every death you have is caused by lag....the fact that you cant play comes into it.
You always find annoying people but there are times when you find lots of nice people. Clans can be a good idea, but i would say most clans are out to win and nothing else. Its that strange thing where a group of people act like one single entity, much like corporations and such like. The clan constantly searches for new people who are good. However, they often dont take into account attitude, someone who plays well can be annoying to get along with. I think you want to find a clan that is truly like minded otherwise dont bother. If you can just try to get to know nice people who you occasionally come across and eventually you can all play together.

1. no (only when i cant hit them...and they can hit me. wich is often the case in alot of games....people get lag kills and think there l33t)
2. no

3. Its all about finding the right sever......just going around joining random servers can really be a bad experiance sometimes.

Well, everyone has said everything that needs to be said about the questions, so I'll just say that I love CoD and the multiplayer is so alternately frantic and sniper-riddled that it's brilliant.

if you dont want to go on servers with idiots , have a look around, add the best ones too your favourites. and play away, Call of Duty is the best darn FPS multiplayer so far, Team play is fantastic fun... and with the kill cam its hilarious :)

anyone know of any call of duty servers that are fun and allow higher pingers to play on? I have trouble finding any.

1. I usually have the highest ping :p i cant complain
2. I dunno people usually whine at me for having high ping thoough
3. People that are angry and insulting are funny, and easy to piss off further :p hillarious, on tfc i enjoy shooting people like them off roofs (who are on my team so it doenst damage them). :p
Basicly people like me generally suck so we need another way of making it fun :)

The whole "people with high ping are lagging me!" myth is really annoying.
In some games, such as Warcraft 3, the game does pause to let a lagging player catch up.
However, most games (including all shooters) simply continue the game regardless of who is lagging. Because players with low ping can send and receive more packets (data) faster than players with high ping, they demand more of the server's processing/bandwidth; a server full of low pingers would actually be more stressed than one full of 56kers.
