i just bought half life 2 and for some reason when i go to create a steam account it says operation cannot be completed when in offline mode and i am always connected how do i put it in online mode heh?

Do you have a firewall or anything? You may need to let Steam.exe through your firewall

check to c if port 80 is blocked
