I have a friend that said he downloaded his game from steam and wored fine. Im wondering if its the DVD and CDs that have corrupted files on them when it was made?

Can anyone confirm its just the CD's? did anyone buy the CD or DVD and works perfect?

Only problem I've heard of with the Steam download is that sometimes the files are corrupted after downloading - especially with slower connections. Worst case I've heard of is that you have to download them again.

It seems that most people having problems with the CD/DVD version of the game are just screwed. No reliable fixes or workarounds have been found. No help from Vivendi. No help from Valve. And if you were unfortunate enough to be able to create a Steam account, you most likely can't return it to the place you got it and will instead have to return it through Vivendi. Now I've been waiting 3 days for their tech support to e-mail me back and tell me they have no clue. Good luck getting them to agree to refund your money.

got the same problem, all the computer i need, 2 of them with the usb external cd/dvd, but stiill can't play, thinking abot sending it back in a million pieces

Firmware

Now this didn't help for me (got a NEC2500a DVD rw) but I've heard it helps for some poeple. Firmware is an update for your hardware, in this case, referring specifically to your dvd or cd drive and can help with the problem where when you try to run half-life nothing at all happens. Just go to your cdrom/dvdrom's website and look for firmware there. Hope it works better for someone else than for me! I've ended up buying a cheap dvd drive and am about to install it (fingers crossed :))
