maybe in future years they'll develop something but i don't think currently anyone's PC can handle millions of individual strands of grass on a map. They tried to fix it by adding small patches of grass here and there around the texture and I think it worked well.

Funny.. Far Cry does it.

if by it you mean Valve's technique of adding the odd 2D grass decal to increase realism, then yes, you're right! but if by it, you mean the realistic grass, you got pwned - check the pic.

You might be right... If you weren't wrong.

I'm not saying Farcry modeled every piecve of grass. Just that they've done grass, weeds, and brush exceptionally well. If you can't see that your blinded by Valve.

As far as the orginal post. I don't think it's missing in CS... CS is indoor urban combat. No need do to foliage well.

Saying it can't be done with common resources is redicules.

I've seen the pic. I've also seen how well models with appropriate camoflage hide extrodinarily well in that foliage.

Is this really that important?

"OH NOES!!!!!111 Liek omgz wtfzorz there arent 1000000 strands oF gRass liek wtf!!1 Damn u valve!"

It could be. If CS could move into outdoor enviroments it might open up some new gameplay for us. We can't even lie down in CS.... Not dissing valve or source. Just adding observation.

yeah the long grass in like a swamp map would be exceptionally cool i can just see it

i just noticed your gay!

stop looking at the grass start blowing peoples swedes off

CS has its own niche in the PC gaming community, and turning it into Ghost Recon by moving towards a more tactical experience would alienate legions of fans, not to mention ruin the game.

Besides, the grass would just be a nice visual effect, which ends up being a trivial addition. Graphics don't make the game.

well I'll be honest I was kind of dulled out by lack of a few certain details ....... when I just stood still observing the graphics... I forgot everything when I actually played...

In a few MMORPGs I've played the grass is done well.. not just a few "billboards' here and there, but well criss-crossed patches covering a whole area.... a la Asheron's Call 2 or Star Wars Galaxies, and foliage and trees very well done with little bugs and lizards and frogs and what not... but that's an MMORPG...

CS is more of an indoor intense arcade shooter.... especially with the BSP engine powering it, outdoor environment standards aren't particularly high
