What version of windows do you like best?

IMO:

95-good for its time
98-improvement for its time
ME-the worst os of them all
2k-the best of it's time (still good now though a little dated)
xp home-so so, has some annoiances
xp pro-your best bet now.

 I've got Windows XP Pro. It's the best out of all the other XP's, so yeah.

Why do people like xp pro so much over home? I mean, if all you're doing is surfing the net, playing a few games, what's the point?

:naughty: Windows XP Pro makes video gaming about .01 percent faster than Home Edition, XP Pro has a bit more tweaks to it as well.

Networking can be different and a hassle to some on Home. I perfer my permission controls too. But Home is fine for most consumers, but then again most consumers buy Celerons.
I like Win2k and WinXP Pro. Have 2000 on my older PCs and XP pro on this one. ;)

Win2k isn't dated at all though. It's the same NT base that WinXP has but basicly without all of the preloaded services, drivers and cosmetic effects.

I went for xp home only because that is what I have. Before that I used 95 and before that I was a Mac guy, so OSX. xp pro wasnt worth it for the extra hundred bucks for me.

yep you're right. xp home actually will have less overhead, thus giving you more performance in games.

Windows Server 2003

I demand more choices!

Windows XP Professional all the way. I have Windows ME on one of my other PCs and that thing is tits. I hate it.

I liked windows 3.1... a lot actually, that would be my favorite. XP Home, because its what I use :)

XP Home is t3h sux0rs!1!!!11!!!!111!1 ;)

Just messin' with ya.

horses for courses. Still 95 should be put out to pasture.

I notice that you haven't included 2003 though. It's great, sort of combines the user-friendliness of XP with the speed of 2000.

I've never got a chance to even see 2003 so I know basically nothing about it.

We use 2003 at school, its pretty good. Quick, even on P3 with 256mbs of ram :(

2003 is very quick. A lot faster than the linux distros I was tinkering with at about the same time. It comes with most unnecessary services (like sound :p) disable by default, but my experience of enabling things one-by-one when I needed them made for a very lean system. Also, as mentioned previously, it comes with all the best bits of XP without the ugli, erm, prettiness.
