I am considering the idea of making a HL2 mod called Operation Market-Garden (original, eh?) about Operation Market-Garden, the greatest Allied failure of World War II. It's got some great teamplay and mapping opportunities, but I'm not sure if I should make it a unique mod by itself, or just do a glorified DoD mappack.

I would be able to adequately make a map-pack for DoD, but I have a lot of innovations that I would be able to add if I did a mod. The only thing, other than the ease with which I'd be able to just make maps, is that if I did make a mod out of it, it would be called a Day of Defeat clone.

Map-pack or Mod?

I'm personally leaning towards Mod myself, but I'd like your opinions.

no no ...make it a mod ...there's always room for another ww2 mod ...especially one using Source

I read this thread as "Operation Market-Gordon" :o

Do I detect a drop of sarcasm there, milord?

Map pack. Because if you'd make a mod out of it that it won't be played much by people because it's hard to stand out with a WW2 mod because it's just another WW2 game. If you're maps are well done, it could grow out to be a mappack that will be played by most servers.

Or even added to dod its self, look at CS. 1/2 of the maps where done by freelance people what the cs team decided to add in, mainly because they made betetr maps than the team. Look at all the good maps.

dust, dust2, aztec etc...

They where all made by people other than in the cs team. I think they where anyway... aztec is definatly done by 3dmike and dust2 has a signiture behind the wall at ct spawn.

Anyway, i think u get my point.

lol, I am thinking of making a ww2 mod just to try and out due all of the others, hehe.

RnL ?
Yeah I want to create a WWII mod also. But something a bit more different.

The tribe, er, HL2 geeks, have spoken. I'll start work on a map-pack.

I can see Operation Market-Gordon now: an intense, action packed mod where you go to the store and get the best groceries for the lowest prices while fighting off rival shoppers. Vehicles include the shopping cart and the conveyer thing they use to move groceries at checkout.

no sarcasm ...I love ww2 games, cant get enough of them
Same here, but there are plenty of WW2 mods already out. I just can't wait for DoD II.

Stop by the WidowX 24/7 Ava/Caen server sometime on DoD, its the best ever.

which model are you going to base it on the most RtCW or Battlefield1942, personally I loved the RtCW version, the 1942 version was just too sparse; you could sit back and snipe or whatever without the tension of the RtCW version, though 1942's idea of being airdropped in was clever. Maybe including a way to bomb the bridge could come into play, or combining 1942's vehicles in the RtCW map format.
