Well, its funny how life can change in an instant for such an insignificant thing as a number. “-Chatillon, 5” – Damn, I needed an 8 to stay in school, I faillied my semester because of a lousy number. What to do ? It has been my worst year at school. My grades are an absolute shame. I have never been like this, I have never been a man of aces, but I still got good grades. For some reason, I didn’t want to study; it didn’t make sense anymore to me.

So I have decided to take a 6 month brake before getting back to school.
Destination? Wales, United Kingdom. I once lived for a year in Cardiff, best time of my life, great people, great city. Operation Sea Lion is now green light.

Ok, so I have a couple of questions for the UK forumites.

1.Since I don’t want to lazy around for 6 month, I want to get myself a job. I’m 17 and I don’t have any diplomas including your GSCEs. What documents can I be expected to show for a job?

2.What jobs can I expect to find?

3.I talked to a mate and he told me that he gets paid 420 Pounds/month for 20 hours a week of work (marketing consultant), it’s a part time job as he is in college. My question would be how much can I expect to be paid?

4.I would consider finishing my studies in the UK, can I expect to find part time schools or night schools to revalidate my school years to the British education system so I can then finish my studies?


That would be all, if I need to consider anything else, please do tell me.

Well, I have only seen this type of qualification in the UK. But I must have my french one when you are 15 in France and you finish school to pass to your last 3 years of High School. Do they allways ask for GSCEs ?

I don't like the EMA, I know someone who's obscenely rich that gets it because her parents were so rich they retired early, so they earn £0, and can claim for it. How unfair? Much unfair.

I mean, I understand some people really need it, but 3/4 of the people who I know that get it just don't deserve it at all.

Adrien, don't be completely disheartened if you lack GCSEs. Honestly, if you can present to some companies a very fluent grasp on French, English, Mathematics via. written work and maybe some old tests or something from the last year, you can probably wing a decent job depending on the quality of your CV. The country lacks foreign language specialists, so maybe you should try and pitch on that angle. But if you don't facy that, do as Sulk says and get the training and stuff to become a lifeguard, swimming teacher or Scuba Diving Instructor. Aquasports qualifications aren't all that hard to obtain and 300% worth it in the end!
