I'd like some opinions on some of these games I am planning to get for my new PC (whenever I get it :dozey:) thanks in advance

Company Of Heroes and Opposing Fronts
(I've played these a little at my friends (he didn't like them really) and I found them to be be good but very overrated from the sounds of it. I was wondering what you guys thought)

World in conflict (same as above)

Unreal tournament III

STALKER

Red orchestra

Last question: Do you think the id pack on steam is worth the $70? I was thinking of getting it soon along with audiosurf.

Company of Heroes I thought was very overrated. Not that much fun at all.

World in Conflict on the other hand was great. Lots of fun, very pretty to look at and a cool, interesting storyline.

Those are the only ones I've tried, though.

Get Company of Heroes and OF, I'd prioritize this over every other game personally... It's probably the best RTS I've ever played along with being the best WW2 game I've ever played.

Get World in Conflict if you want an incredibly fast paced RTS that pretty much consists of just massing units and saving up for sweet abilities.(nukes, artillery, etc.)

Pass on UT3 unless you loved the original(UT99), cause it's pretty much identical save for having vehicles and prettier graphics, you'd probably not like it if you liked UT2004.

Get STALKER if you want a game with an INCREDIBLE atmosphere.

Get Red Orchestra if you're into ultra-realism FPSes.

And if you want every id game ever made(I think that's pretty much what it consists of) go ahead and get it.

CoH: I found it really fun, but ultimately lost interest in it later on. This is normal, though, and it might have had something to do with me playing the multiplayer beta for 40 hours before launch.

WiC: Only played demo; didn't find it all that attractive.

UT3: Again, demo; didn't find it all that fun either.

STALKER: A big MEH in my book for this game. There's a huge thread about it, though, if you want to check that out. It looks like a fun game, but I didn't like the whole quest system in a FPS.

Red Orcestra: I've played this a few times on the free weekends. Another big MEH. It's fun for awhile and then you get pissed off and never want to play it again. I never had the urge to buy it after one of those weekends.

ID Pack: If you like the games included, why not? Monitarily, it's a fantastic deal.

The first three get a very big "meh" from me.

Stalker's pretty cool, if a bit obtuse.

Red Orchestra is about the same.

The id pack is worth it if you think you'd play most or all the games and enjoy them. I personally wouldn't buy it, but that's just me.

Audiosurf is amazing.

Company Of Heroes and Opposing Fronts
Well, it's flag-based and all that. So you get a limited amount of population and you can only build as much. Usually that means you're stuck with 8,000 resources of each kind and a 75/75 population limit. You reach the limit pretty quickly, so it kinda forces you into micromanaging your units in a (in my opinion) uncomfortable way.

As an RTS it was fun and beautiful to see, but I'd take C&C over it anytime.

World in conflict
Haven't played it

Unreal tournament III
Judging from the demo, it just seems like an updated version of UT2004 with some more features tacked on and some removed ones. I had more fun playing UT2004.

STALKER
Absolute sechs, win and other superlative terms. It's got an incredible storyline, pretty damn good acting, nice AI (most of the time) and some REALLY creepy locations. The graphics are good (but very demanding) and the weapons feel good. In the beginning you'll have some shitty stuff but you'll really appreciate it when you take down a big guy and have his awesome gun :D Add to that the atmosphere and you've got buttsechs on a DVD.

Red orchestra
Judging from the free playing weekend, it seems pretty fun if you've got a good team, good teamwork and like realistic shooters. If you list it on a scale with Call Of Duty being 0 and Operation Flashpoint being 10, it'd be an 8.0 or something. It's pretty damn realistic, but it's still built to be a (fun!) team-oriented shooter. I personally liked it.

Company Of Heroes and Opposing Fronts
I've only played Company of Heroes (Never got Opposing Fronts because I'm on dial-up and there's that bullshit about logging in every time you want to play) and I love it to bits. I was playing it for months (and this is just offline skirmishes, again, I'm on dial-up) and now I feel like installing it again. No game since Red Alert 2 had be hooked for so long. I love how it works, for me it's an ideal RTS. I've never been great at expanding bases and relentlessly building tanks and armies. In CoH you can win by using a smaller ammount of units and using the properly and keeping them alive. It's not everyone's game, but I love it.

World in conflict
Only played the demo. It was fun but I wasn't impressed. My friend (who's a huge RTS fan) hates it.

Unreal tournament III
Again, only the demo. I was almost as hooked on 2K4 as I was on CoH and the C&C games. The demo just didn't do it for me either, though that was possibly largly to do with the fact that it looked like shit on my PC (which plays Bioshock of full settings). Seriously, it looked worse than the original Unreal Tournament.

Haven't played the other two.

Company Of Heroes - Didn't find it easy having to manage all these different squads over the map. Trying to hold the points was hard since you can't build units too quickly and you have to focus on too many areas at once. Just found it annoying in the end, but I may not have known what I was doing.

UT3 - Engine isn't all that. Graphics aren't that great, really; still lightmaps and vertex lighting. Ugly. Maps seem small and gameplay not much different from 2k4, and the gameplay parts that have changed are generally for the worse.

STALKER - Pretty decent. I just wish they had given us a hit indicator crosshair like in BF2, since bad guys take 100 shots to kill and you're not even sure if you're hitting them half the time. I hate having to mod a game to hell.

Red Orchestra - The best WWII fps that currently exists on the planet we call Earth.

Company Of Heroes and Opposing Fronts

World in conflict (same as above)

Unreal tournament III

STALKER

Red orchestra

CoH: Great game, Opposing Fronts makes it better with the addition of UK and trenches

WiC: It's not as complex as it tricks you into believing, all you do is get heavy tanks and you can rock anybody

UT3: Haven't played it, but I'd guess it's like any other UT with prettier graphics

STALKER: Pretty fun game if you are willing to dedicate some time to it

Red Orchestra: The best WW2 shooter you can get, forget about Call of Duty of Day of Defeat

Company of Heroes: Amazing RTS, definitely worth the money

UT3: Great is you're a fan of the spastic deathmatch genre. The demo was pretty bad, but the map variety and utterly amazing vehicles in the full version bring it up a few notches. Only buy it if you have a computer to own it, though.

By the way riomhare, did you adjust the screen render area in the video settings for UT3? It tends to set that on Doom 1 mode unless you're computer is a beast.

CoH was an amazing game.
Stalker was awesome.
WiC was boring in my books
UT3 was boring in my books
Never played Red Orchestra

I liked all of them, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. especially. I played on a friend's save, he was smart enough to save his game in the middle of the night while surrounded by about 3 Bloodsuckers with only a handgun. :|

CoH campaign was quite fun and tactical, and very well balanced. The multiplayer, on the other hand, is just a race for tanks.

lol

"muawwww....that was some nice sleep....<3 siluettes appears>...!oh shi-!..<search backpack and found only a ppm>...oh crap.."

CoH was a really good game, single player wise.

WiC was better with multiplayer.

STALKER was a lot of fun, shame it wont work for me anymore :(

UT3 I found pretty entertaining, though if you own a previous version you may want to pass.

Never played Red Orchastra.

Why does UT 3 seem to have an almost universal negative press around it and low sales? I would have thought the fact that it is UT would mean people would buy it.

Maybe I'm thinking differently I've never really played UT before and only just ordered UT2004 online recently as I heard that is the best.
