I may or may not want your opinion but anyway-

damiengouder.com is my first attempt at a website, and I would like to know if you think there is anything I could do to improve it. I have no training whatsoever in web design, flash, or anything else I used to make this site. Pure self taught trial and error and frustration!. My friend (Damien, obviously) needed a website done up for him to help with his music carreer, and asked me to do one. While you are there you may as well check out the streaming audio and tell me what you think of his songs (if you want), and I will pass that on to him- or post something in the forums.

It looks good. I would really consider a pre-loader for the flash though. So you only wait once for the whole site to load (and then it caches on your PC for quick loading on your next visit) instead of having to load each page seperatly - which sucks.

When I first loaded it, was abit messy how certain areas showed up first and out of sync etc'. So yeh, get a pre-loader on it!

Lol. I know, I can't stand it, but Damien is all for freedom of expression, and said as long as it isn't too offensive or swearing etc, to leave things like that. That one is borderline though.

OK I'm gonna get rid of that one I think. It has nothing to do with the style of his site at all, and I never liked it there. All I needed was an excuse.

the music is quite good but other than that the rest looks kind of flashy/tacky not really promoting a professional or even authentic attitude . it doesnt suit the kind of music he makes it really just looks out of order. you should browse through some band sites and try to give the design a more artistic feel.

I could maybey make something similar to those sites, but a big problem I had was keeping the quality up and file size down. Any suggestions?

I get what you mean, but how can I make a scrolling window inside? I know what they are, just not how to do them- I actually wanted to do that for some of the larger pages! And what is CSS? I'm a totally self-taught noob at webdesign! I appreciate any help / links! Thanks!

CSS = Cascading Style Sheets. It's like making a layout of a website without worrying about the limitations of space and other things. For example, let's say you had three images with transparent backgrounds and you wanted to overlap them to attain a desired effect. There's no way in hell you'd do that with HTML, but CSS would make it easy.

You do know you can do that exact effect (rollover effect) just using Javascript, right?

Much faster to load, and people that don't have Flash will still be able to see your site

That's not what I meant- I just taught myself about tables first. I didn't really know about css. Still don't- I'm still building up enough patience to teach myself! Was running low on patience after having to teach myself about- web design, ftp transfers, flash, web servers, forums, etc...... I had a week to do it all.
