I've got a interesting off-topic subject, why dont they teach about the opium wars in school(k-12)? They were a huge event and probably the best anti drug lession they could teach, so why do most schools omit it from history? did your school teach about them? mine sure as hell didnt, but we did spend 3 weeks on johnny apple-seed. any thoughts?

Because you are a product of the American Education system.

According to your country there is no history unless the Americans were involved.
 
I remember like half a day spent talking about it in a history class. That was probably like 10th grade or somthing. They tend to not teach you anything in our public schools.
