Opposing no

I downloaded opposing force of steam the other day (to refresh a good ol series) But I cant get it to work at all. it starts up with no picture or sound...just blackness.
can anyone helpplease? I dont want to waste money on a really good series.
Also im using a hd tv if that makes a difference. I plugged it back into my pc monitor and had the same result

Opposing Force is an expansion pack, so it needs HL1 to play. Do you have a Steam version of HL1 on your PC?

If you have a registered Half-Life CD key on Steam (even if it was purchased alone), you'll get Opposing Force and Blue Shift along with it.

When downloading Opposing Force, it also installs Half Life, even if you haven't bought it. It just preloads Half Life onto your PC, and you can buy it later.

I have half life on steam but that works fine, ive completed it and wanted to replay oppoising force to go through it again (I havent played the old games since I last played them when I was 12) but I dont get anything for opposing force. im too afraid to download blueshift to play through again incase I get the same result. I also varyfied the caches on it too but still blackness. ah well I guess ill just have to just brush up on it through reading about it(ive only completed it once and that was after half life 1)

yea, that is odd, you could reinstall, valve keeps tabs on your bought gamez, so if u delete it, it should re dl, and then it should work, if that doesnt work, just try getting it on ebay or something.

You uninstall it, but its kept under your user which you can reinstall.

I just was thinking now (now there lies a dangerous thing to do)
I have half life source....... is that fine to run opposing force? I dont have the original, I have source...... would steam be that fussy to run opposing force only if you have the original game?

You can't have Opposing Force without the original Half Life. You don't even need to buy Half Life, it comes preloaded.

Thats what I saw, anyway when my brother bought Opposing Force.

And no, Half Life: Source is different to the original.
