Orange box gift expiry?

So I bought the orange box, and gave the original half life 2 to my roommate, since i already had it on my account. After we got it working, it seemed to be working fine, and he has been playing it for about a week. Today, when he launched steam and went to his games list, half life 2 showed up as "pre-load complete", and when he tried to launch it, it took him to the purchase page for half life 2.

Is there a fix for this? Or am I to understand the game I paid for came with a time limit?

There's no time limit try deleting the ClientRegistry.blob and restartimg Steam.

It seems to have solved itself when he rebooted his system... i guess that's done it.

Thats a common bug in Steam. All he needed to do was restart Steam.
