Orange Box -HL 2 Error Whilst Loading Savepoints.

Run the game off steam on a 3.00 ghz comp you would think there would be no problems. i leap out of a window and head towards a door , this is the first savepoint in the game i think and as soon as i reach it the message

loading...

comes up. after 4-5 seconds the screen goes blank and i return to my desktop with a message

HL2 has encountered a problem do you want to send error report?

I am truly gutted since i just bought this game and i didnt know it would be full of bugs considering all the good publicity it is getting.

please help!

p.s [i'm worried this may be the case for episosde 1 and 2 aswell]

Typing 'dxdiag' in Run will provide you with this.

i might have fixed the problem by downloading an updated ati driver.

im not quite sure though but im now up to the part , where ive just been handed a cro bar.

the problem hasn't re-occured yet

and i tried the game 6 times and the problem occured each time.
