I have just upgraded my PC and I can't, for the life of me, work out how to solve this bug:

On Portal, ALL sound skips like a bad CD, voice, effects, everything.
On TF2 occasionally the menu music skips, but none of the game sound effects do.

I never had this problem on my previous pc (Creative 24bit onboard) but do on my Sigmatel HD audio (DX38BT board - driver version 6.10.5511.0). I'm running vista 64 as I did on the pc with the creative chip.

Now noteably I did copy all the files across from my old pc, to save me downloading them again, but I have seen this issue on a fresh install too.

I'm hoping there will be some new drivers out, but I can't find much call for this bug on google, which leads me to believe it's not That wide spread, or, solveable in a way I can't work out yet.

I sent this to valve through a TF2 bug report, but does anyone know any better?

I think that you are a good person and you use Steam if now leave now!
*So have you tried veryfing gcf files in Steam?
*Your OS can cause problem too back in HL2 times there was a blenty of random bugs on x64 OS
*If nothing works you can try to reduce sound acceleration by running by Start>run>dxdiag.
*You can try also up/down-garding your drivers to sound card
*TF2 skipping music in menu is a common problem if those tips wont help you try to simply ignore it.

I hope you installed Steam and only copied the GCFs (game cache files). Do that, and then activate the game through Steam. Or maybe it really is just a driver issue, but I've made the game run on a low-end Sigmatel audio card.
