hey guys!
I bought the orange box for the PC a few days ago and have some problems:(
I'll just list the problems out for each game.

Half-life 2: Walls keep vanishing so you can see through them and floors keep shifting around or something?(some slight stuttering also)
Ep 1: Same problem as above + terrible framerate and tons of stuttering.
Ep 2: When it gets to the menu it becomes inaccesable and the screen keeps blacking out.
portal: Same problem as Ep 1.
TF2: When I join a game it brings me to a menu that's like a whiteboard or something and it becomes in-accesable and sounds loop in the background.

Loading times are also very slow.

Somebody help me please!!!

Sounds like your computer can't handle the game. What are your specs?

Thanks for replying guys!

Yes I do have steam.

My system specs are:

operating system: windows vista home premium(6.0, build 6000)
system manufacturar:Hewlett-packard

Any ideas?

Since it is a laptop it has integrated graphics, which aren't great for gaming. But, judging from the rest of your specs it sounds like there should still be an onboard gpu capable of at least running the game.

Stuff to check:

  1. Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. I don't know how drivers and stuff work for onboard graphics, but find out the make and model of your gpu then find the latest drivers. EDIT: I went ahead and found your drivers. I am fairly sure you have 32 bit Vista. If you don't backtrack and find the drivers for the 64 bit version. Note: On this page I chose the C700 CTO version, I don't know how different if at all the CTO version is from the others, but if yours is different make sure to click the model you have.
  2. Make sure your laptop has plenty of ventilation. If you are playing on a flat surface you might be contricting airflow through the bottom of the laptop, try propping it up against something.
  3. Try doing a virus/malware/spyware scan.

Try those then check back. If those don't work, reinstall the game(s).

Judging by the specs and long loading time, we aren't talking about a particularly powerful machine to run these games unfortunately.

Ensure there are no errors on the game content files (gcfs) by doing an error check. Right click the game in your 'my games' list, click properties, go to the files tab and click 'validate integrity of game cache'.

Due to the integrated graphics your settings may need to be on minimum or very low down. Have you tried reducing them?

Also note that Half-life 2 and Episode 1 are on the original Source engine, and Episode 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2 are on the improved Source 2007 engine which needs a bit more PC power. So expect better results from HL2 and Episode 1.

Thanks I'll try that!

I have tried reducing the settings and it improves the framerate slightly although the other problems remain (This is Ep 1 only as Hl 2 has no framerate problems)

I'll try updating the drivers

You may what to consider disabling HDR as that's pretty resource intensive.

something I just realised that might be of consideration is that whenever i'm in my steam account the thing that shows you something's loading, beside the arrow (the hour glass thing) keeps vanishing and then appearing rapidly.

Any possible connection?

btw I have disabled HDR already

EDIT: I have downloaded the driver to no effect, I'll try uninstalling next...
