Amid a flurry of CS clones, SWAT mods, WW2 mods... etc... I decided to come up with an original idea. :naughty: :naughty:

What I came up with was this:

The general idea of the mod would be an American Civil War era Coop/Singleplayer action/fps mod, where you are a young Union Calvary officer with orders to investigate a small disturbance in a small town in Northern Illinois called Miles City. As it turns out the disturbance is caused by a strange bear-like creature. You and your Regiment quickly dispach it. But within days reports flood in of more strange creature sightings around Miles City. Wolf-like creatures, human-ish creatures, gorilla-type brutes, and big scorpion-like things. (As it turns out, they are creatures from a diferent dimention.) Since your Regiment has some experience with the creatures, (after taking care of 10 cases or so around Miles City...) Lincoln decides to appoint your Regiment as the official "Strange-Creature Regiment" and from then on you and your regiment take care of all the sightings. Eventually they start to appear by the 100's, so you have your work cut out for you. And once the bothersome things become a serious problem both to the U.S. citizens, and to the Union Military, General Grant sends orders to discover their origin, and to "Do something about it."

There would be several singleplayer levels, ranging from hilly fields to forests to burned-out towns/cities to caves to lakeshores.

You would be able to give your regiment basic squad orders like "attack", "follow", "defend", etc...

There would be "vehicles", I.E. horses, wagons, etc... While on a horse or driving a wagon/stagecoach, you could drive with one hand while shooting or swinging a sword with the other. So you could gallop thru a mob of enemies, trampling some and beheading or shooting the others. :naughty:

there would be a large variety of weapons, such as: Colt Revolvers, Calvary Sabers, Winchester Rifles, flintlock rifles(with bayonettes), pitchforks, knives, shovels, etc... and "mounted"-weapons like Cannons, etc...

I'll post more info if anyone thinks its a good "idear"

:P

one thing, dont call your mod original in this forum, if its not completely original...otherwise you get slaughtered.

right, as for my thoughts, it seems very...very...very...very...repetitive...very

'...and from then on you and your regiment take care of all the sightings. Eventually they start to appear by the 100's, so you have your work cut out for you. And once the bothersome things become a serious problem both to the U.S. citizens, and to the Union Military, General Grant sends orders to discover their origin, and to "Do something about it."'

not very in-depth descirption of the gameplay, 'you and your regiment take care of all the sightings'...that doesnt really make me giggle with excitement, even if that isnt a rare thing :o. it just sounds like a handful of battles which you fight, on horseback, and that get harder as you progress...not really taking full advantage of Source eh .

to me, it all just seems like an old age version of Starship Troopers, without the crappy love story, and a few more creatures.

PS. i might be a bit biased, as i hate games about the American Civil War

Sorry the description isn't very good, i have some of the missions' basic layouts and stuff all ready, but i was "supposed" to be doing a math test :D so i kinda abbreviated :S

You could use the physics to your advantage, (one specific instance for example, in the loft of a barn, you could cut a rope and drop a hay-bale or two on your enemies.)

as for the missions, what i said in the other post was kinda the backstory... :P

um... its late... :S i'll write more tomorow, otherwise i'll make a fool of myself

That's definitely a cool setting/theme to start working with. :)

Thanks! :D I thought so! :)

anyway, back to more explaining.

There would be more than just running and shooting missions, there would be missions where you would have to drive, ones where you are riding and shooting, maybe infiltration type missions... etc...
The first level I thought up was one where you and your regiment are riding down a road that cuts through a wooded area with steep banks going up on either side. When from both sides a bunch of enemies ambush you. You have to fight your way out, and then gallop/run for a better place to defend from. (in this case a big plantation house/estate.) The owner and his family have been slaughtered, and some of the enemies are still holed up inside it. You clean out the estate while keeping the enemies outside at bay, but your weakened group of men can't hold out forever, so you need to find another way out. (i don't wanna give too much away, and it's kinda rough, i need to spend more time on the levels, i kinda made em up on the fly :P i know... i know... I didn't think anyone would think it was a good idea though :P i was pretty sure it would get torn to death within 3 posts :P *even tho I thought it was a good idea :P*)

level 2 would be right after the escape from the plantation, in a small town. The town is being attacked by the Rebels, so you of course help defend the town.

anyway, the missions would hopefully provide a wide variety of locations, weather conditions, times of day, and enemies, and "vehicles". and each one of those factors affect the gameplay, so you have to adapt your strategies to fit the conditions.

i have about 3 or so more levels roughly planned out, and a basic storyline... (you know, the Gov. making a big cover-up about the whole Miles City massacre and stuff... the beginings of a few goverment agencies, etc... :) )
other than the rest of the levels, i need a name for it, and a team to make it. :P

I can do relatively crude mapping and modeling(i suck at uv mapping/texturing though)... (i'm practicing both...) but i don't know anything about coding. :(

anyway, i've started gathering source pictures and refreshing my Civil War history, so's i can make my storyline somewhat historically accurate. (although i don't think creatures came from another dimension to wreak havok during the Civil War... but, hey! it could happen. :) hehe )

ok, i'm gonna write out the whole storyline and when i'm done edit with a bunch of new info... etc.. :)
