Alright heres the situation. I rebuilt an old computer half new, parts half old:

NEW:
Asus AVn7x-x (or whatever you know the one)
AMD Xp Barton 2500+
256 MB DDR PC3200 RAM
RADEON9600PRO

OLD:
30 GB MAxtor Hardrive 7200 RPM
20 GB IBM hardrive 7200 RPM
Wireless network card
Samsung 48x CD-rom
Floppy

Now, I set up the system correctly, everything registers fine in the bios. And I switch the bios order to CD-Rom first so I can install Windows 2000 and hopefully format both of the hardrives. But whenever I try to do this it instead tries to start up from the hardrive.

How can I format my hardrives in this situation or how can I get the Windows 200 CD-Rom to come up before the regular boot-up attempt?

Hm, you really should have had a bootdisc with CD support ready before trying to install...

I do somewhere.....

But thats not the problem the CD-Rom is supported and identified as working. Putting it at the top of a boot queue is basically the same thing as putting in a disc with CD-Rom support.

Yes, but obviously that isnt working, or you wouldnt be here :)

Well, the problem was actually with the CD-Rom itself, the laser seemed a little off-kilter and the whole thing just needed a good shake to work again (I of course discovered this after hours spent fooling around with DOS. The installation went pretty smooth.

I almost shed a tear when I played Unreal Tournament 2003 flawlessly with all details at max.

Next I'll try running Doom 3.
