Other M

Meh...

With all the previous games I've played this and previous year, the gameplay looks like it's been there, done that.

I could understand why people would get WOW'ed by this if they are metroid fans.

Every Metroid fan I've talked to hates it utterly and wishes it would die.

I like Metroid, this seems okay. It's way too bombastic though, and the FPS gameplay seems tacked on for the feature box.

Looks like they are getting the right idea, but this does seem too all-over-the-place. Just give me a 2D Metroidvania with with 3D-ish graphics. Is that too much to ask??

You basically just described Shadow Complex. I heard something about it coming to the ps3 or PC somewhere. You should totally check it out.

I know! I sold my 360 back due to a profound lack of interest in games for it, so it looks like I may not be able to check out Shadow Complex (until it hits another platform). Bionic Commando: Rearmed is a great example of the type of gameplay/graphics I want--everything is 3D, but plays in 2D. Very similar to one of the portions of the Zeus battle in God of War 3--AWESOME. Still, neither has the exploration down like Super Metroid or Symphony of the Night sadly. One day maybe something like these will roll around again.

Unfortunately, the new Castlevania game is completely 3d and only looks mildly interesting so far.

After playing God of War 3, I couldn't give a rats ass about new 3d castlevania.

Back on topic:

Other M is lookin' good, and I'm by no means a Nintendo/Team Ninja fan...

It seems like it might be controlled and "feel" like a 2D Metroid, like the whole 3D aspect is just a really elaborate representation of a 2D sidescroller. If that's the case, it might be really good.

I was thinking that MIGHT be the case as I watched the vid, but its pretty hard to say. I will likely have to wait for a review or two.

Off topic: Yeah, the new Castlevania interests me this much *squeezes thumb and forefinger together tightly*

My opinions on Other M after the most recent trailer are mixed. At first glance, it looks like it'll be awesome, but I'm rather uncertain about how well some of the implementations will work. Obviously some of the fights shown make use of in-game cut scenes, but how will the game lead into those? QTEs or simply triggered by a certain circumstance (ex. Boss health at 50%). I also noticed that it did not show the player using a nunchuck. I really hope It's optional, because I abhor the layout of the wiimote by itself. Metroid games have historically been a series that takes place almost entirely on a single planet, yet most of the CG sequences seen appear to occur on a military ship. It'll be interesing to see how the CG transitions will work if the game features similar exploration to the rest of the series.

I saw the control mechanic of this game. Apparently, if you are controlling samus in 3rd person, you handle the wiimote sideways, but you switch it back to forward position when you go to first person.

Seems interesting, but at the same time the control seems cluster ****ed...

Looks like a good concept gone bad thanks to (once gain) Nintendo's horrible gimmick controller.

I have gone back and forth with this one and this latest vid above makes me go back into the "Shit that looks killer" realm. Looks like they may have actually nailed it, but I will still be watching everyone's reviews/reactions closely. I just hope they make a proper 2D Metroid for the 3DS. :E

Not sure about this. I think I'll need to get a direct hands on for how it feels.

thanks to (once gain) Nintendo's horrible gimmick controller.

Keep telling yourself that.

Again, I really hope the nun-chuck is optional. I much prefer its stick over the horrendously small d-pad on the Wiimote.

I'm slowly getting more and more hyped for this. Hope it's more Fusion than Prime. Can't stand the Prime series, however hard I try. :(

The control is a huge turn off for me.

I've used wiimote in sideways as a controller for another wii game which I forgot. But I do still remember that it was ****ING horrible.

Not sure how you can deal with it so long.. it was cool at first, but after a while it just got really ooold and fooorced. Felt good to go back to the PS3 controller, and I doubt I'll even get the Move, because it'll be the same shit.

The first person shit is gimmicky but it seems like a decent game.

Well it's really just a move with nunchuk, point at screen/swing and press a button or two. I don't know why it feels old or forced to you, it works smoothly and is well oriented to the games. I can see how some people might not like the control scheme altogether, it's a matter of taste as much as anything else but I'm not just gonna let 'durr hurr shitty gimmick controller don't work swing arm real dumb' get by without comment. Especially with Nintendo's last controller belonging to the gamecube. I think it's nice just to have one that works.

Teehee. It's like Fusion, only with a patented High School Drama© storyline, and Resident Evil 1 voice acting.
