I keep trying to get my Asus P5AD2 Deluxe machine up and running and it keeps telling me that overclocking failed on it, I;ve tried all the settings in the BIOS with no luck, can anyone help me this problem? Do I need to update the BIOS first or what?
edit: Also, any seuggestions on a good CPU fan for an LGA775 Prescott would be nice

Either take the battery out for a while or use the jumper to reset the bios

Yes! this problem is specific on Asus boards, Has happened on both my A7V600 and My K8VSE Deluxe.
You need to update the bios, this will help to get rid of it.

how long does the battery need to be out for?
Thank you both, now i just need to figure out how to update the BIOS without Windows installed

Your motherboard should have: C.P.R.(CPU Parameter Recall)
When the system hangs due to overclocking failure, there is no need to open the case to clear CMOS data. Just simply restart the system, the BIOS would show the previous setting and then users can amend the CPU setting again.

If that doesnt work then take out the battery and move the jumpers close to the battery from 1-2 to 2-3 for 5 seconds then put them back to 1-2 and put in the battery. Im not sure how to explain it, it should be in your motherboard manual.

Same with updating the bios. It's in your manual. The way I did it was to load the bios file on a floppy, and some other utility, then when I booted the computer to the floppy it started to update the bios. It's not that hard, and if you screw it up, you can always get a new bios chip, which is like 5$.

hmm does anyone know whats the thing called that if the computer gets to a certain temprature it shuts down?
