overused trance noise ~ ~ !

Yeah. I can't get anything similar enough though =(

A super saw is a series of saw waves that are tuned harmonically with eachother over a range of several octaves.

Or something like that.

yeah, i just downloaded a 'supersaw' vst and it sounds similar, but kinda bad

I assumed that the noise / synth would be easy to find since practically all commercial trance songs use it ;/

And I wish I could find the samples that DJs scratch with so commonly. If anyone knows what I'm talking about.

Yeah I think I know which you mean, the 'Fresh' and the 'Aahhhw' noises?

They come with most scratch / dj / battle sample mixes. Could upload one if you cant find it

Like in http://youtube.com/watch?v=STjs5XoKUfo that? My mate's lush scratchin :o

Ahh that's sweet.

That might be part of the set I'm talking about.

One of the samples is this crowd yelling something like "pump pump pump pump me up!" or something like that.

Download a few DJ sample collection mp3s

Anywh0, still can't find what i'm looking for :[

yeah sounds like a supersaw. Try Styrus, its a VST plugin that has several sounds like that.

EDIT: I should mention they're using alot of automation as well. Just sequence a supersaw and then record an automation track, altering things like Cut, Res, LFO, distortion, detune, etc. It's actually possible to make even the cheeziest, simplest synths sound incredible through automation and effects.

yeah but I can't find a base lead sound to start with :[

Just get 7 or so saw oscillators tuned to different pitches in a scale.

I don't know much about VSTs but can't you just load up 7 basic saw vsts and work it out that way?

Seems alot harder than it needs to be ^

I googled around and apparently they're produced with a roland jp8000, I can't find any vst's that recreate what i'm looking for though

What? This is like as simple as it gets. That's literally what a super saw IS. Find yourself the most basic synthesizer vst with a saw waveform, and just load up a series of them. (Again I don't know how vst's work so forgive me) this really shouldn't be that hard, man! :) Good luck.

I'll give it a shot.

It's probably not so much the sound of it as much as it is the kind of seizured, repetitive precision I always find it being employed in. Every time I hear it I'm reminded of being locked in my German friend's car for half a day when driving through Europe and having his hardcore techno/trance playing the entire damn time.

The only staple of the the electronic music genre that I really like (excluding beats) is the classic acid sound from a 303. It just feels so much more warm and personal, but it can be turned into something with bite and rage. The supersaw always sounds to me like a robot made it, which is kind of the image I'd like the whole genre to distance itself from. /shrug

I guess I'm just new to it. It sounds shitty in those crappy generic trance songs, just because of what you said. But when I found the "ultra saw" combi patch in reason, and I started playing with it, it was quite fun. I like the big sound.

Also love the tb303 and the amen break if that counts too.
