alright i bought a nice comp 1 gig of dual channel ram and stuff, radeon 9800 pro, ne ways i got a prescott processor (my dad made me buy it cause we supposedly said we had a deal that i would buy it.) any ways when im playing games this thing reaches about 60 - 70 degrees celcius, i have no game slow down but should i be worried at all that its that friggin hot? i mean will it melt ne thing or hurt itself?

The Prescott is known to run really hot, but you shouldn't worry about it damaging anything since if it is like every other intel chip it will shut itself down if it gets too hot to prevent any damage from occuring. Just don't touch any paper to it or anything and the only thing you will need to worry about is if it shuts down midgame before you had a chance to save.

:O I heard that Prescott temps average 40-50 idle and 60-70 load.

Well, look at it this way. Not only did you get a blazing fast processor, but you also got your own personal grill. All you have to do is thow a hamburger or hot dog on the heatsink and BAM! You have a professionally cooked meal. As an added bonus, you get those nice grill lines from the heatsink. :)

If it hits the temp. limit it will scale the clock back or downclock (Resulting in limiting performance) but if it jumps way over the mark it will shut down ASAP.
The 'mark' on Prescotts are set higher than on Northwoods since they run so hot and they don't want them performance limited all the time. ;)

With a Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu cooler it won't get that hot...

Don't let it get that hot. Even if it doesn't affect performance immediately, your processor will have a longer life if you can keep it about 15 degrees cooler...

60-70 under load? I knew they got hot, but that's ridiculous. My Northwood never even reaches 45 under full load. Are you sure you installed the fan? :p You may want to look to beef up your cooling, as suggested...
