Should this be any higher? I know its probably my geforce fx 5600. Everything else i have is top of the line. Would a geforce 6800 raise it alot? To how much, and what is the top score on 3dmark03?

A GeForce 6800 would make your score drop. To about 9.

...

Will a Corvette be faster than my Ford Topaz? :dork:

Thats not what i meant... I know it will be faster. But i wanna know about how much my score would improve...And any help on my other questions is appreciated.

3dmark03 is mainly a graphics card testing program. Hence, good cards get better scores than not-so-good cards. Yes your cpu and ram are fine but the card is probably holding you back. Please note that I don't know jack all about nvidia since I never owned one but I do know a bit about 3dmark03.

btw, the top mark for 3dmark03 was like 17000. But dont worry that's only on an insanely overclocked computer which is so unstable it could blow at any minute.

I'd say.. oh.. a good +8000 3dmarks.. the FX5600 really is the only thing holding your system back. How id got D3 to run at 1024x768 in medium details on a 5200 ultra with 40+ FPS average is beyond me

oh its possible, d3 is really optomized, i ran the alpha decently

3dMark is useless. Rarely does it indicate how your card will perform in games.

Well D3 is OpenGL and a 5200 Ultra has pretty high clock speeds so it could keep up, believe it or not. *Edit* Yup a 5200 Ultra's speeds are 325/650.

dude, u should get around 6000-7000

no man, i have the exact same system, except that i have 1gb of ram, i get 2260 score at 3dmark03 with the same system and gf 5600... what a crappy card man.

Ummm no, I got with my old setup, a 2600+(2ghz) 512mb fx5600XT was 4111..So you are way wrong.

Yeah no way a 5600 can get that high. 7000 is almost in the 9800 pro range.

7000 is WAY past a 9800 Pro's range for 3dmarks.

Besides, I believe Gorgon was saying he'd get 6000-7000 (even though this is really underrated for such a card) with a 6800GT, not a 5600

Yes, your 3dmark score will gop up astronomically with a 6800.

But please, please, please don't let 3dmark have ANY influence into you buying a video card. It measures the performance of a card to a very specific way of doing things. IE, the ATi way. Yes, nvidia did cheat. that was bad. Then they intorduced new drivers that had a "cheat" in them that gave better performance without a reduction in IQ. Futuremark patched 3dmark03 so that nvidia cards using this driver would get lower scores.

I upgrade my PC from a p4 1.8Ghz, 512mb pc2100, 9600pro to an Athlon XP-M that runs fatser than a 3200+, 512mb pc3200, and a 9600pro. My 3dmark score went up ~200 points. My capability to play games went up by huge leaps and bounds.

3DMark03 is not representative of how your computer will play games. It shows you how it runs tests with select restrictions. That's it,

I use 3DMark all the time BUT only as one of many benchmarks
I also use farcry, painkiller, UT2K3, quake3arena demos/benchies
I find that tracking game demos/benchies is MUCH more accurate.
this also lets you direct compare with posted reviews.
