real interesting interview the other day with one of Karzai's advisers the other day. A rough transcript to follow
A high ranking official Karl Eid (I think that's his name) have also expressed this same opinion.
What I think about why the ISI might have done this.
1. Eliminate the elements within the Taliban that were ready for talks and keep the organisation hostile
2. So that the Pakistanis can keep getting weapons from the U.S.
3. It will seem as if the Pakistanis are cooperating with the Americans.
Although the Americans did provide help in capturing Baradar, so the Americans may be not all that keen on talks themselves, even though they have indicated otherwise.
Either way, Move over C.I.A. ISI is my new new fav organization.
Q: Karzai has expressed anger at Baradar's capture, especially at the Pakistanis, do you think they may have sabotaged the peace talks ?
A: Possibly, Baradar and all of the commanders that the Pakistanis have captured were actually engaging with us in peace talks. The problem now is that the Taliban will lack trust in us
