I agree with you that America shouldn't regret health care or education so, but you are taking this whole anti-american thing too far, and by bringing your european-ness into your post you are making all of us look bad. I don't for one. Overall I don't think republicans are like this, This exists mostly in small towns in across the bible belt. Reasons for not voting for Obama seem to fit in these categories though, from least prevalent to most; racism, Obama's secretly being a muslim, and socialism/communism or spreading the wealth around.

Racism is easily one of the stupidest ways to decide ones vote.

Obama isn't a Muslim, and if he is, who cares. All that matters in my mind is if he would legislate his beliefs, whether christian or muslim.

And it makes me cringe whenever someone says Obama is a communist since they obviously don't know what communism is. And Obama hasn't supported socialism, even when it comes to Health care (He hasn't supported the government ownership of the entire healthcare market). And whenever complains Obama would spread the wealth around you to recognize that for that past 50 years the rich have gotten richer while the poor have gotten poorer. And while increasing taxes on the rich would not fix this, greatly lowering taxes on the wealthy while keeping the middle class and low class with the same amount of taxes is not a step in the right direction.

The McCain's campaign strategy of propagating these myths is detrimental to his image. Which is where the focus has generally been upon.

One thing to think about though is how Obama says everyone should get a tax cut. The thing is though not everyone pays taxes. If you make below a certain level you get everything you pay in back thus you don't actually pay any taxes. Obama actually wants them to get more back which would be more like a tax credit. It's part of the "spreading the wealth" idea he believes in otherwise known as redistribution of wealth. It buys into the whole bullshit idea of "haves and have nots" which throws personal accountability out the window.

How can 95% of people in the US get a tax cut when 40% of Americans don't pay any income taxes at all?

Doesn't surprise me at all. While I know that not all Republicans are this bad ... it ain't exactly rare either. There's a reason that the GOP appeals to base emotional issues rather than facts, and that's what attracts these kinds of morons.

Also ... it's hard to really look at the issues intellectually and come away supporting McCain.

Social Security and Medicare are in a surplus, the money that isn't used for social security or medicare is moved over into the general fund. That is $150 billion dollars.
 
I'm not sure about the validity of the statements SIGbastard made, but there is a percentage of state and federal taxes taken from all income. There is also a tax on all purchased goods.

It's true. If you don't make over a certain amount of money in a year, you get all of your taxes back at the end of the year; State and Federal. In my opinion, you don't make enough to survive though, so it makes sense.

Many get help (food, shelter, grants) from family or something, and whoever is helping you can claim you as a dependent, meaning they get your taxes back; they may even get a credit, I'm not sure though.

EDIT:
There are different tax brackets. The more you make, the more they take. it's a scale. So the poorer you are, the less you are taxed, and if you make under a certain amount, you get all of your taxes back.
