Republican presidential candidate John McCain got a bounce in opinion polls from his convention and now runs even or slightly ahead of Democratic rival Barack Obama, with eight weeks to go in the White House race.
Senator McCain's surprise choice of conservative Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate has sparked a burst of grass-roots Republican enthusiasm, polls showed.

Heading into the conventions the two had been running even or Senator Obama held a slight lead in most polls.
Meanwhile
"Palin's attacks have resulted in our campaign raising over 10 million dollars -- a one day record -- I hope she gives a speech every day," said Obama spokesman Bill Burton.

It's really astonishing how close the race is.
