I've been asked to be a Pallbearer at my gran's funeral. I was dreading the funeral anyway but this makes it 10x worse. My gran wasn't exactly a small woman either so I'm bloody worried incase I drop the coffin or something :( Has anyone else ever done it?

I was a pallbearer at my girlfriend(at the time) father's funeral. while carrying the coffin the brother of the deceased rushed to me yelling in polish trying to take my position as a pallbearer ..seems he was a drunk and they excluded him. I nearly dropped my side of the casket when my girlfriends uncle grabbed me. the casket was freakin heavy even though there were 6 of us carrying ..the deceased was easily 230lbs and the casket was easily twice that

Did it once at a friend's funeral. Those coffins are bloody heavy, but you usually carry 'em with 6 or 8 people so you should be fine.

i did it once...it's never something you like doing but it seems like you always remember it and you always worry about dropping it.

I think you should do it; it's the right thing to do.

reminds me of the show Trigger Happy TV. There's a bit where they try loading a coffin in a hearse and they have it fall out a bunch of times and come apart. Onlookers are stuck with this horrified look on their faces...pure comedy.

I have done it 2 times. The 1st time, there was 6 of us carrying it, i was in the middle on the left side, while walking through the door i stumbled on the person in front and fell over, the second time as i was going through the door the door wasnt big enough for all of use to fit through so i smashed into the side of the door and hurt my arm.

You wont drop it because there is other people carrying it.
