First off, let me introduce myself. My name is Collin, A.K.A. “Mirage”. I am a current Traptown.com staff member, and head of a brand new Half-Life 2 mod, which I am here to tell you about.

Paradise Lost is a Half-Life 2 mod based on the epic poem by John Milton. The basic concept of the mod revolves around the battle between God  and Satan :flame: , Good and Evil. The player will have the option to be either good or evil (possibly even neutral) and progress through an interactive storyline that takes them on a journey between the realms of Heaven, Earth (the garden of Eden) and Hell. Paradise Lost will take full advantage of the Half-Life 2 engine and will provide some truly amazing graphics and gameplay experiences  (both single- and multi-player). We are currently working on the game's details, but we have a temporary site available at http://www.mirageacg.com/PL.html.

We are currently looking for modelers, texture artists, concept artists, sound engineers, coders, mappers, and website designers/developers. All interested parties should contact us via [email protected] (e-mail or MSN) or via AIM with the username mirageacg, or Yahoo! using mirageacg. Keep checking back as we progress.

Let's make this clear right off the bat, this is nto a religious mod. It is a psuedo-christian idea of God, Satan, etc... brought to a mthical like status. (No offense to any of those that are religious tho, but this mod is for hl2...)

Quite frankly, the concept doesnt interest me at all, not one bit.

It's just not a good basis for a game...

I beg to differ, it clearly is a religious mod, it's just not one preaching anything specific, but does contain many religious sources, obviously.

Anyway, I think it sounds pretty interesting, but would love to know more, like what is the game like. Also, like many, have not read any of Milton's works, so maybe a little more indepth storyline of the mod would be cool.

There is such an utter lack of originality in mod concepts lately, it's nice someone is looking at something different that plays with the idea of a spiritual/mystical/divine genre.

I am creating a concept doc atm, so soon on that. Secondly, this is not a religious mod in any way, shape, or form. I will make a short synopsis for Paradise Lost also (the story). Contact me for further info...

mirage, I hate to argue a meaningless point, but as soon as you use any concepts of heaven, hell, god, adam and eve(as from what I gathered paradise lost was about them being exiled from eden) it has religious influence.

Your not preaching the benefits or negatives of religion or do you have any specific message about it within this idea, we understand that, but the fact your using religious concepts classifies it as a religious mod.

<<1st>>I did not post here in order to discuss the religious implications of MY mod.

<<2nd>> There is no real "religious influence", (if you have read Paradise Lost you would know that, and I just did my final paper for Advanced English on it), John Milton uses the ideas of religion in order to compare and relate the social, political, and cultural conceits and the implications of freewill and reign or power. Also, the characters are not the Christian/Classical sense of Adam and Eve, Satan, etc… they are transformed into metaphorical bodies for a set of ideas/beliefs John Milton was exploring for his own personal discovery.

<<3rd>> Once again back to the original point of my posting here, we need members for the mod team, this mod has great potential and gameplay value, so if you are interested in becoming a team member contact me.

(<<4th>> Once I have the site up, which I also need help with, I will have a section devoted to strictly the discussion of Paradise Lost (the epic poem) and the religious social implications that can be inferred/derived from reading or discussing it.)

And btw Jaenos, your modeling/texturing skills are awesome, nice Pan!

I'm always up for concepts. Monsters are my specialty, if you need demons or whatever.
