I found this on www.cnn.com (Sorry If it is to long next time I will just post a link)

SAN JOSE, California (AP) -- Sony Corp. has become the latest of the video game console makers to announce parental controls in its newest machine, according to the Entertainment Software Association.

Now, all three major console makers are promising parents the means to help restrict their children's access to violent video games.

Sony will place the controls on its forthcoming machine, PlayStation 3, according to the ESA. Users of PlayStation 2 could limit access, but only to movies, not games.

The company wasn't immediately prepared to comment.

Microsoft Corp. had already placed parental controls in its new Xbox 360, which debuted last week. The machine lets users restrict access to video games and DVDs that carry certain ratings, such as "T" for "teen" or "M" for "mature." It also offers parental controls on the company's Xbox Live online gaming service, limiting who their children can interact with.

Earlier this month, Nintendo Inc. announced similar plans for its next-generation machine, Revolution, due out in 2006.

Sony, which leads the worldwide market with more than 102 million PlayStation and PlayStation 2 consoles sold, also introduced parental control for games in its PlayStation Portable, launched earlier this year.

The video game industry has been under tougher scrutiny in recent years as lawmakers enacted legislation restricting sales of violent video games to minors. Industry groups have so far successfully challenged the laws in court, citing violations of the First Amendment.

"With the average age of game players now 30, our industry naturally creates content appropriate for a wide range of audiences, just as there are TV shows, films, music and books for people of all tastes, interests and values," said Doug Lowenstein, president of the Entertainment Software Association.

Lowenstein commended the game console makers for voluntarily applying parental control technology that is not yet found in other media devices, such as DVD or music players.

News to me too.
Good idea for parents, but if their children really are too young to play those games then why don't they just not buy them?

Yeh, that is what I was thinking, Also I think it is stoping a child getting a R rated movie and playing it on there.

True. Never had that problem though. Been playing 18 rated games since I was young.

And yeah, it will most likly stop the console playing DVD's of certain ratings too. Seeing as the PS2 did it.

playing MA games at 9 is the best :smoking:

My first MA game was Grand Theft Auto Liberty City, I was like 8 or 9, That game was awsome back then

the ultimate parental control:

PLAY WITH YOUR KIDS YOU STOOPID LAZY PARENTS!!!

I will personally test every game I buy my son ..I dont see why it's so hard for parents to take responsibility for what THEY purchase for their kids

about 80 persent of the parents are illiterate to technology so how are they supose to do this, Unless there is a button about the size of Earth on the front of the unit and is blinking that says PARENTAL CONTOL I really dont think that most parent will be able to set it up

kids will figure out a way to by pass parental control just like they do with tv

if parents arent going to take the time to to find out what their kids are playing then they have no right to complain

Of course. Kids will always find away around it that it untill I unleash my sercret weapon Bwaha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha  :flame:  :flame:  :flame: :imu:

Good...
This way theres even less ways for Parents to blame others for their children being "affected" by video games in anyway.

Guys, Companies like this don't care about Parental controls at all. If they had working parental controls that any moron could set up, then their developers will lose millions in losses from underage game buying.

The only reason they put it in is because otherwise the parents wouldn't buy that console for their child. It's like looking on the back of a packet of cereal. They have to put "omfg this is SO healthy for your child!" on the side of a box of "mega-choc-chip-sugar-happy-flakes", or the parents wouldn't buy it because they think it might 'be filled with sugar'.

I mean obviously for all the companies care, the parental control wouldn't do anything. So what? Parents will still buy their console, set up a password, and their kids will still play violent video games. It's not like they check up on their kids anyway is it? Then, when their most likely abused and mentally unstable kids go out and kill a hobo, they'll blame Videos and Media -- Oh wait, they already have "parental controls" on DVD players?

See where I'm going? Constantly switching the blame for retarded inbred ****tards killing hobos will eventually lead to the parents blaming all the rules being forced upon them to lash out at the law. Then what will happen? Does the rule book have a
reset button?

Oh right, because you work for or know somebody that works for game companies...
