yep saw this. hopefully it removes more problems than it adds is all i have to say.

It will probably add some, almost all patches do.
 
we can only hope for the best :) im getting more play time out of bf2 than any other game, so might as well hope.

If they fix the server browser issues, I can wait for them to fix random crashes to desktop ;)
 
Any word on a release date or is it just "in development"?
 
All I care about is the server browser and the jitteryness you get sometimes on a 64 player server.

What about the player tags when they pick up an enemy kit? It'd better fix those- that's one of the most annoying bugs.

glad they're fixing the terrible server browswer, hopefully now they'll get to work on the numerous technical probs people have. Lockups, ctds etc
 
New maps would be nice every now and then two. $100 bucks for something like 10-12 maps is poor. I hope EA let DICE make more maps, but i doubt it as i dont believe DICE have done so in the past.

These maps have so much play time tho, i dont think its poor- they're good maps, and 12 is plenty

DICE do release new maps. They released a load for BF1942 as well and a load for Vietnam (With underground tunnels!).

Compared to UT2k4 which had 100 maps 12 sounds like a small number. But the biggest difference between the two games are the quality of the maps. UT2k4 maps were all made to fit the gameplay as an afterthought, but the BF2 maps were all designed specifically for BF2, with all the vehicles and classes in mind. Also, the detail on the BF2 maps is amazing, there are very few areas that are just bare terrian.

And you can multiply the number of maps by 3, since they all have their progressively larger versions. Albeit they're just the same thing with a tad bit more area added the the equation, 16 player Karkand and 32 player Karkand, and 16 player Gulf of Oman and 32 player Gulf or Oman are completely different experiences.

Although I would like to know, how on earth did you end up paying 100 bucks? I only payed 50, and that's still a large sum for a game.

But as a side note, I LOVE the bare terrain. I find it sad that nobody ever fights in the tall, open, grass fields. That would make awesome sniper matches. Imagine you and your squad just captured a base, and are trying to get back to your Stryker, of which you parked in an open field. All of a sudden you hear a sniper round go off, and you all hit the deck and end up just sitting there, stalemate, waiting for somebody to make a wrong move.

He probably lives outside of America. One time I was in Heathrow airport and I was going like, "Wtf! A bottle of Coke is $2.48!!! I can get one in the US from a vending machine for one!" Then in Germany, when I had a chance to do some conversions, an average priced Gamecube game was like $75-90. I was wowed.

On a side note, you can find everything in a French vending machine.

Again i sure hope they optimize the game more with this patch as this is just pathetic. I could play Gulf_Of_Oman on with everything at full setting except for Texture which was set at Medium, now i'm forced to run the game with everything on Low. And it still runs like shit and now it looks like shit. This is really starting to piss me off.

Eh...$100 bucks you say? Also, don't expect many (or any) new maps. Just because Valve do it all the time doesn't mean everyone else does it. They spoil us so much :D.

Yes $100 bucks. Its AUD not USD. And i'm not talking about Valve i'm talking about other developers like Epic, or Tecmo (who released 2 free expansion packs for Ninja Gaiden) or Bungie. But as Venmoch pointed out DICE do release new maps for free, so its all good now.
 
I hope it fixes that problem where your teammate goes red...I lose so many points off that :(
 
From the sound of it, this is just going to be a minor maintenance patch to fix primarily the server browser (which is good). I don't think any of the other issues we really care about will be fixed for a couple months, if then. As for maps... you'll probably have to wait for mods or the next official $30 map pack.

Does anybody remember the BF1 patch when they had given a release date and it pratically never came out.

I can only hope the best for this one.
 
anyone else notice that theres only 1 gametype mode? Conquest is all there is for the game, yet theres a tab that says "gametype" and all thats in it is conquest, they should add more

Actually, there's more than one. The main type being conquest (capturing bases) but there is Conquest: Head on, Conquest: Assault, and a whole bunch of others.

But as you said, I wouldn't be surprised if they added a TDM sort of mode, or a Destroy the opposing teams asset type of mode, or defend your assets from the opposing attack.

I really think the game needs to put more emphasis on base defense, and a "Defend your assets from the opposing attack for X amount of time" mode would do just that. It would make spec ops act as spec ops, sneaking behind enemy lines and harrasing them with C4, not like infantry with pipe bombs. It would force people and their squads to make forest ambushes. Rigging the road with c4, a few AT's up front, 3 asault units ready to hold up the attack, a support soldier for ammo, and a medic for health. Trying to stop enemy tanks and the likes from getting to their assets.

I think that would really be fun. I LOVE setting up one man ambushes in the forest in Daqing Oil Fields, and Fushe Pass (there's so much ground to be covered there, just take a jeep, load it with explosives, and place it as far from a base as possible, and some sucker on foot is GUARENTEE to get in and drive off with it.)

yes i agree, kinda like the search and destroy/ headquarters gamemodes in call of duty mp.

i'd like there to be a greater, i dunno, focus on 1 objective rather than say 8 on 64 karkand for example, i mean 8 or so flags, theres no proper flow to some matches at all, people just jump in a jeep and race off to flags, take 1 race off to the next , theres no line of battle or anything, anything who is a tiny bit stealthy can sneak through to a flag, ofcourse playing in a squad reduces this as you listen to your squadleaders orders(generally).

this is probably why i like playing the 16 player maps with 32 players or 32 maps with 64 players, you really feel like your in a tight battle and people are forced to work together better.

There are actually three: Conquest: Head-On, Conquest: Assault, and Conquest: Double Assault. Too bad they took out CTF...

One map that's kind of like that is the 16-player Sharqi Peninsula, they kind of tried to simulate a defend your base thing from an onslaught of enemies.
 
I still want Co-op back :(

Aren't you supposed to fix bugs you know about BEFORE you release the game?

I understand that they were on a tight release date, but I wouldn't have minded waiting a few days to get the game. Not to mention I got it a week after release :E .

Unless they were expecting to generate additional bugs by fixing the ones they knew about. In that case, lets just cross our fingers that Jee-Ay Gaymes doesn't FUBAR another one.
