PC crashes when playing episode 1

Computer specs as follows:

Card : ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700
Driver : Omega 3.8.421
OS : XP Pro
Memory : 1Gb

The Problem
During the playing of the game my pc just spontaneously shuts down. This only happens with valve games and noticeably with episode 1(I've had to go through hoops just to play this game). Has anyone encountered this problem before? After a resart from a crash like this is there a system log I can check to see what happened? All help appreciated.

Are you using steam? If you are, verify the cache files of each game. Then try changing graphics settings and if that doesnt work, a clean reinstall of the games.

umm to my knowledge omega hasnt made a driver since 2003 or 2005 i dont remember. so i recommend updating.

When you say shuts down, do you mean actually shuts down, or just turns off like the power went out?

Former - Software error, try reinstalling
Later - Hardware error, prob a broken fan causing overheating, possibly a duff component

please download catalyst drivers. They might be a safer bet?
