I'm looking for speakers for my laptop for ~80 Euro/~115 USD. I want to use them mainly for listening to music, as I use headphones for gaming, so I think a 2.0 or 2.1 set would be appropriate.

Any recommendations? So far I've been thinking about either the 2.0 GigaWorks T20 Series II, or the 2.1 Logitech X-230. The former are more expensive, have more power and a wider frequency response range but I'm wondering if the lack of a subwoofer isn't a big minus, despite them having some clever bass system to compensate for that.

I think my friend has the 5.1 version of the X-230s and he loves them.

I had a Creative 5.1 set but was on the cheap side. Have Z-2300 and they are much better although no surround sound. But a little higher than what you listed as your budget. Too much?
I don't really like the basic series from Creative and Logitech. Maybe Altec lancing in that price range.

Some other good speakers under your budget.
Why not.

I have the series one T20's. Got a ridiculous amount of use out of them. The bass on them is surprisingly good considering their size, so unless you're a sub junkie, they'll do fine. They also have great amps in them, i.e. you can get them almost loud enough for parties.

Good longevity, the only thing that's wrong with mine is that the left one crackles when I adjust the volume. But they're over three years old now with almost 10+ hours of use a day.

I think build wise they might even be better than the equivalent Klipsch model, which seemed a little overeager on the low end. These and the T20's are pretty much the only 2.0 systems you should bother looking at.

Also, avoid Altec.

Oh and my family also has the Z-2300. It sucks. Avoid it.

I don't even know how old my Altecs are (8+ years), 2.1 still works great.

I have an Altec Lansing 2.1 system I bought for ~100 USD a year or two ago and it's all I could ever want (with the exception of surround sound, but I'm not made of money). I use it for playing music when I throw parties and stuff, really good sound quality and a lot of volume range.

There's actually a logitech 5.1 system on newegg for about $80 I was looking at buying.

I wouldn't go with Altec Lancing, unless you didn't care and just wanted the kind of sound that comes with a roller-ball mouse, and an eMachines Desktop.

You should see if Harman-Kardon still makes PC speakers. These guys are on a 'hole 'nother level. [HNL]

Looks like they do -

Course you want to read reviews. I don't know how they get all of that sound out of those things; just ultra quality I guess.

Look at the way they design shit, bro:

PolkAudio would be another brand that I would recommend. Clean. Simple. Amazing sound.
