I recently bought i new PC 4 days ago and i have any no problems with it, except it randomly switches itself on. i can shutdown and put it in hibernation but it annoys me when i hear it whirring up in the night and booting up. Can anyone give any explanations why this might be happing?, as i have never come across this.

It watches you sleep. It wants to take your body, yet it has no legs to walk with.

It's probably settings for virus scan or something wanting to update at night.

Lol but can PC's switch themselves on to do virus scans and download updates?, cause my old one never did.

I once had a weird experience where my laptop booted itself up while inside my laptop case. No idea how they do it...

Yeah, Norton always ran at 2:00 A.M. for me and did virus scans, you could turn it off, or set the settings different. When the free subscription expired, I uninstalled that shit straight away.

I swear, they hear your thoughts. /me grabs aluminum foil hat.

make sure "allow this device to wake from hibernation" is not checked in the power saving features. It could be your Ethernet or updates or ... aliens.

also make sure your mouse is not set to wake from hibernation either, because mice can wake your computer if you accidentally stomp or something. tap a key on the keyboard to wake it works fine.

Google will help you if you can't find where to change these settings.

Check the BIOS to see if it is configured to "wake on LAN" or something similiar. Also, look to see if it is configured to "power on after AC loss".

Those are often the culprits.

This. Also, some bios's let you set them to auto switch on at certain times, so check that to.

Only person in this thread who knows what he is talking about.

In hibernation; anything could wake up a system, however, when you shut system off and it turns itself back on, in middle of the night is when you totally need a voodoo master to rid evil spirits.

Good Luck.

It once happen to me. Fortunately it only happen once, otherwise I would of ripped out the mobo long ago ;)

Not exactly related, but whenever I plug in the power to the back of my computer, my computer turns on. It didn't do this with my other computers in the past, so I really don't know what's up with that.

But not as creepy as it turning on by itself in the middle of the night.
