Anyone else noticed that PC Zone (UK) this month is saying they have an exclusive review of HL2 in next months issue, which will be out 16th Oct?

If HL2 ships by the end of the month, they should have a review in october's issue, it's nothing unusual.

no nothing unusual... Just assumed it meant that it looks as though the 30th sept date looks to be on!

:cheese:

Yeah but for the past 3/4 months every magazine under the sun had been claiming to have the exclusive CS:CZ review "Next Month!" No really.

Anyway, if it IS out for the 30th, I ain't waitin' for no freakin' reviews!

Especially as there'll probably be spoliers galore...

Actually a few magazines got a review of CZ (PC Gamer) and then a few mentioned that they didn't recieve any copies to review (PC Format).

You know with Valve keeping everything secret, they probably won't send people review copies until after the game is released. It would make sense.

I read a few spoilers about Half-Life in some reviews and I would like to go back and play the game knowing nothing about it. Particularly about the marines or the intro.

Games mags promise reviews which never arrive every month. Thats the sceptical side of me coming out.... BUT I doubt any magazine is stupid enough to give a load of BS about the most anticipated game ever and a review about it.

Also with such a major game, the mags will only get a copy of it around about the same time as the public to prevent piracy, and it's not like Valve are gonna make many more sales from people seeing the 95% score it's gonna get in the mags. Hell everyone knows it's gonna be amazing, we don't need a dumbass spoiler review to tell us that!

Ok, well I remember PCZ and PCG in particular doing a fair bit of Next-Monthery.

I'd be extremely surprised if Valve kept reviewers waiting until AFTER the release date. The day before or on the day, perhaps, but after? Seems a bit weird if you ask me. They'd probably just go buy it anyway.

But I DO agree with you that it could be good to go into the game and know as little as possible. ESPECIALLY the way UK PCGamer are. Specifically Steve Brown: I'd finished MaxPayne when I read the review and I'm glad I had because there were quite a few spolers in there. Plus, his review of Op4 had a picture of the final boss in it... Alright that was a crap boss, but still! Although maybe that was an art dept, decision. Who knows.

thats one thing that i am particulary worried about. I have the feeling us down here in Aus are gonna get the game a few days later. I will learn all in the first five mins of release as every site in the world goes crazy reviewing and spewing about it. I might have to cut the net for a few days.....i donno....the suspense shall be the death of thousands...

Don't look at any sites at all until you finish the game...
Otherwise a surprise'll be spoiled and you'll want to kill everybody in the whole world.
Maybe.

lol, i got a site saying hl2 will ship (from the site) on 12/12/2003 :D
but yeah, im really looking forward to all the reviews and the new world order lol!

yeah... it's not like HL2 won't sell if no one's read a review... i would imagine the pre-orders on this game are enormous...

My personal view on this whole thing is that Valve are sitting there laughing at the frenzy we're all getting ourselves into and we are doing their advertising for them...

"Have you seen this?" "Wow! This site has new pictures"

Lots of little tiny pieces of information... It's all very clever...

IF.. thats what they're up to... who knows? But it's been fun being part of this build up!

It's very typical of most Video and PC games magazines to run 'next month' taglines only for the title to slip. It's undoubtedly not their fault as things no doubt fall through or slip, but advertising the issue as this is a bit misleading, definitely. Always annoys the **** out of me....

Zone is a pretty reliable mag and I have yet to be dissapointed with their World Exclusives. Got my copy of the latest mag this morning in the post so I'll have a look for that 'Next Month' section and see for myself :). It is a good sign for the 30th though.

I think I'll go buy my copy now. :)

ZONE is very good, overtaken PC Gamer I'd say.
Remember when it used to be £2.50? I had a subscription so I got it for about £2 an issue. Bargain! Ahh those were the days, Crap demos, 450Mhz 'beasts' with voodoo banshees and geforce 1's.....

I don't know - I'd say they're on a par. They're both good but in slightly different ways, with their own style. But it's true that PCG's been slipping in quality for quite a while now.

LOL black. When I first bought my PC it was truly ninja. A Pentium 75 with 32MB DIMMs! I had a Diamond Stealth PCI and a Sound Blaster 16. Hehe. Come on a bit since then :p
