Argh!

Its pretty much my biggest 'habit'. I bite my nails too. But this one is just...yargh...I literally cant put a pen in my hand without spinning it first before I write with it. To the point where its like a drug. Once I start, I cant stop and find myself fishing around for a pen to carry on during the day.

By pen spinning I mean spinning it around my thumb and doing whats known as a 'Sonic', where it spins 'upward' from your 4th and 3rd finger, using your thumb as a level, to your 3rd and 2nd finger.

I could only do the thumb spinning for about 3 years. It used to drive my neighbour (and best friend) in halls at Uni MAD in lectures. Even if he was sat opposite me, he would throw things at my hand to get me to stop, or if he was closer, just grab my pen and subtely dispose of it across the room. He used to do it because I would drop my pen alot by trying to do it slowly, and the almost constant noise of someone dropping a pen on a table is, agreeably, very annoying.

Then in my 3rd year at Uni, I learnt, after MANY frustrating days and hours of almost constant trying, how to do a sonic. And now I cant help but alternate between the two the whole day.

Its a great attention seeker thing to do though. People see you doing it and you can just feel then watching you, like being in an Aston Martin or something. Ego booster habit anyone?

I bring it up because Ive just made my boss laugh. He gave me his pen to sign a form, I took it off him, and as my hand was going down to sign, I spun it round my thumb, caught it and signed in one smooth motion.

I have an addiction. Is there some place I can go for this kind of thing!?

Am I at home or am I so alone???

I stopped biting my nails.

I was completely irritated by them flaking off into little painful layers on the underside. So now I only clip them with a nail clipper.

holy **** Raziaar, you shrunk!!!

Ontopic:

When i get a pen in my hand i cant help but to shade things. I draw weird shapes and shade them.

I've been trying to learn pen spinning for years now, doing it when I have a pen in my hand that's not writing. I suck with it, and can barely do anything, and never at any great speed.

I envy your curse!

I see a lot of oriental people do that...I tried but failed for many years.

A Japanese exchange student came to our school and tried to teach us. Some people can do it, some can't.

I can't. :(

I can do the thumbspin pretty effortlessly, sometimes it goes around twice and makes me look like some pen wizard.

I think I did that once..and then never again.

One of those 'Oh no way!' moments, you get all excited and try to do it again and just fail miserably.

I do a double spin ontop of my thumb sometimes and it travels back up my hand toward my arm, its weird. I cant purposefully do it though. Its just a fluke that happens now and again.

And I doubt its OCD. I dont feel anxiety when I do it, it just happens without me thinking about it.

I am cursed by the thumb spin, I thought I'd stop doing it after I left school but now I do it just as much in uni lectures. Different from the sonic though, I spin round the thumb, not the middle fingers.

And I haven't stopped doing it since.

I stopped after I switched to those heavy ass pens that would break your fingers if you tried to spin them.
