should people with lung cancer and things of the sort caused by smoking be treated like handicapped people? should they get handicapped stickers and what not? should they have to walk further than people that won't run of breath before they even walk in?

im just wondering because people that smoke did it to themselves, and most (if not all) knew the possible consequences of smoking squares. so if they knew do they deserve it?

One of my family's close friends died from lung cancer due to work related conditions over the years.

Yeah, screw him!

:/

edit: What about someone who was say, playing with fireworks and it blew their leg off- they now use a wheelchair. No handicapped room for them.

Or people who were at fault in car crashes (IE: Did not yield, ran a stop sign, etc) and lost a limb. Should they lose handicapped benefits too?

I don't think they should.

People with lung cancer...
Are people that I laugh at. HAHAH IDIOTS!! Congratulations, you've poisoned yourselves.

Edit: Unless they're old people with lung cancer...back then they didn't know how bad it was for you.

I'm in agreeance with Rakurai. You lot are just being a bunch of callous dicks.

one of my friends grandfathers has lung cancer and has never smoked a day in his life, so what would you guys say was the cause for that?

So what if they got lung cancer from smoking? It doesn't mean they are bad people or could not help it. Nicotine is addictive like a drug, you start to smoke because you enjoy it, then you NEED it. You should feel sympathy for these people and help them, not make fun of them.

Tobacco is just stupid, and drinking, and sex before marriage! But thats just the Mormon inside me talking.

No but seriously, i can understand drinking, and the hippidee dipidee/hanky panky but smoking? Its not like you get a buzz from it. It has to be a bandwagon thing or something.

Those who smoke, please explain your reason for smoking.

Your body gets so much nicotine when you smoke that eventually it will start thinking you need it, and that's where smoking comes back.

What's a passive smoker?

someone who inhales smoke from other peoples cigarettes. Or if your being sacrcastic in that case piss off

My Grandfather died from Lung Cancer or more specifically Asbestosis, one of the most aggressive forms of lung cancer, because he used to work in ship yards in the 50s and 60s. Without it, it is reckoned he would have lived 20 or 30 years longer.

The government didn't recognise Asbestos as a dangerous substance until it was much too late, and many people have suffered because of it.

So it's not always caused by smoking, and indeed some maybe caused by passive smoking.

But, wait a minute. Those other things you mentioned are accidants, cars are meant for transportation, that someone crashed them it's an accidant, fireworks are not meant to blow your hand of. Using those things the way they were supposed to be used, and the right way will not hurt you. On the other hand, if you use sigarettes the way they were meant to be used you are killing yourself and you know it.

Okay what about a soldier who gets his legs blown off walking on a mine, he signed up for that shit he knew the risks so should he lose his benefits? You're just being pig headed.

Ok so we all agree : Us humans are idiot dickwads.
We massacre each other every chance we get, we try and poison ourselves as much as possible by polluting everything (Talking about big companies here) and then we get all depressed and kill ourselves.

Man is made for being killed

No 'm not, you'r beeing pigheaded, the anwser to that is the same as my previous.
it's not a soldiers job to get his limbs blow off, it may occur in the line of duty, but if everything go's correctly he should be fine. When a cigar is used the way it is supposed to be used it causes it kills you.

What you do now, is like comparing a chemist who works with poisinous chemicals and accidantly spils some and injurs himself, to someone who willingly injects poisenous chemicals in himself.

You want to smoke, and get treatment later fine. As long as you do not bitch that 90% of the price you pay for that cigar go's to the government to pay for your future treatment, otherwise you can die.

I thought it was more than obvious that Rakurai was referring to irresponsible use of fireworks and automobiles. Hell, he even made specific examples.

Nobody plans on getting into an accident when they speed. Nobody plans on blowing their face up with a firework firefight. Nobody plans on getting lung cancer when they smoke.

But if you have any sense of compassion as a human being, you won't kick their asses to the curb when they seriously suffer for their actions.

.

They don't expect it, but smokers are making it increasingly more likely to get lung cancer.

Anyone that gets any disease from something they caused should not be classified as "handicapped"

Heres a little story. A few days ago (I work in an Off License/shop) and someone stole a £15 bottle of Smirnoff. Me and the manager both saw him and went after him. He grabbed the keys and we got into his car and quickly followed him into a housing estate. We eventually found him in a backgarden (at this point, the manager was kicking the shit out of him). I told him to stop, so I could question him. I asked him why he stole it, he goes "I was hungry, please, don't hit me, I'm engaged). I reply "You were f***** hungry? So you decided to steal alcohol?

I then told him to empty out his pockets (for identification), he gave me some slips of paper and a letter. As I was reading the letter, it said he was "mentally ill". At this point, me and the manager were thinking, "shit", he beat the crap out of a mentally ill person. Out of guilt, we let him go.

As we got back to the shop, I read the other slips (which i ignored before), it said he was on "bail" and is in "rehabiliation"; therefore which classes him as "mentally ill". What utter bullshit - I can't believe we let him go too (although we still have his name, address etc.).

You do get a buzz from it.. unless its like a ultra-lite or something :|

How about this: Those who smoke, please explain your reason for starting.

I feel sorry for people who get cancer from second hand smoke, but anybody who starts doing it of their own free will doesn't deserve my or anyone elses sympathy.

Well, for young kids, its a bandwagon thing. But then they start getting addicted to the nicotine (sp?); if the body goes long periods without nicotine, you start to crave it.

p.s. Just as a note, I don't smoke and don't tend to.

Why do I smoke? Because it makes me look cool. In fact, if you would ever like to be percieved as cool once in your entire life, then you would buy a pack of Marlboros and hover around a street corner and look surly.

I smoke newports.. started almost a year ago only smoking like 1 square a day and now I can smoke a square every 30 minutes if I don't control myself.

I don't even remember why I started. But right now I smoke during a break at work, after ejaculation or after I just got high.

Beerdude26 said:
Shouldn't that be after sex?

Because if it's not, you really need a gf :p

Well, you know, ejaculation in a general sense.

There's also not really a way to tell if the lung cancer came specifically from cigarettes. There is always more than one contributing factor.

People who drive a car are well aware they may one day crash. If that occurs should they be allowed medical treatment.

It's a silly arguement. Yes a smoker with lung cancer should be treated for their illness (considering how much tax is tacked onto the price of a packet of fags they've already paid for the treatment anyway), but no they shouldn't be treated any different other than that.

Hmm thinking about that too the issue may be different in socialist countries. We don't have to deal with the issue because we pay for our health stuff here via insurance.
