Performance Oddity

I've run across a peculiar situation here. As you know, typing net_graph 1 into your console shows your FPS. I decided to try it out today, and play one of the more graphic intensive levels. (Follow Freeman!) Looking at the info it showed, my FPS for outside and inside enviroments were 50+, yet I run at at a rather large and off-kilter variable, 10-30 FPS. I was puzzled by this. Could anyone explain why this is? I'd like to keep a consistent twenty, which according to net_graph 1 I should be getting, but I'm not.

Here are my specs:
GeForce FX5200 128mb
2.5ghz Pentium 4
512 MB RAM

your fps will never be constant they aren't on any system

You obviously didn't read my post. According to the info displayed when I type net_graph 1, my FPS should be 50+. However, I run much lower than that. Can anyone tell me why?

it dont work like that. sometimes there is a lot of detail on screen and fps go down.
