My current system

Athlon 64 3200+ 1MB cache
MSI K8T800 FSR
1GB of DDR 400 (512mb DDR400 Geil Golden Dragon, 512mb DDR 500 Kingston HyperX)
Radeon 9800Pro (at stock).

Running the game with most advanced features turned off, I was able to get >80FPS at 1024x768

Turning on 4xAA and 16xAF with Medium end reflections... The fps dropped inside tunnel to 60s.. and over long distances to high 40s low 50s. Walls and close range views gave approx 100 fps

Turning on 6xAA and 16xAF with everything reflective... the fps dropped into the 30s... and at times into 20s.

Here are a few screens

4xAA, 16xAF partially reflective

Take note, at dust0007 image, the bottle reflects the light holes on the roof of tunnels.

In dust0008 and dust0009, you can see the BOMBSITE A marker reflected while looking at the bottle. That to me is very remarkable.. and performance drop understandable.

Well, I was hoping to silence some of those who talk smack about how "average" CS:Source looks compared to Farcry etc etc.

Being a CS fan, I won't be bothered by reflections etc... while I appreciate the graphic makeover and addition of physics... I will readily play this game at 800x600 without any reflections etc... if it made my gaming performance better.

So far... I like what I see.

in the last pic is that a reflection of ur head??? :O

No, its not a reflection of the players head.

If I remember... you will not be able to see your character... not in HL2.. and definitely not in CS:Source.

What you see to the left is the wall with the "A -->" sign, and to the right of the bottle (near cap) you see the bombsite opening of the tunnel.

Interesting point to note... Turning off reflections doesn't really turn them off .. hmmm

how many fps do u get at those settings while really playing with ppl?

Sorry to disappoint, but the reflections on the bottles, AWP scope and the like are not real time reflections. They're just predefined textures of the area that pan and change when the object is rotated or moved.

See for yourself, get an AWP and move from one "area" of the map to the next, you see the "reflection" instantly click from one texture to another as you cross an invisible line.

You're not going to see any dynamic moving objects or players in the reflections because the textures are just static images of the empty level.

I don't see how that can be true... because if you roll something large like a try down into a dark area you can see the reflection of everything perfectly no matter how you move it...
