P.S On European Market Place only.

waiting for the pc demo next week since i dont have live, post impressions though.

2008 you mean :P

I'm jealous, I'm playing PES6 right now in windowed mode.

Tell us the gameplay differences that you notice.

Never had a PES game. When it comes to the US marketplace (hopefully soon), I'll for sure check it out.

I have to say I'm very impressed with PES 2008, the game is fast, players are smart and the animations are superb.

can't wait for the full version.

eek? in a good way? i find pes can be far too fast particularly in comparison to winning eleven(JP).

well, comparing it to PES6, this game is faster
but don't worry its good really good :)

Cool I shall download this second. It comes out next month apparantly, cant bloody wait.

Having played with both the FIFA 08 and the PES 08 demos I feel a fair comparison.

Graphically:

PES has good solid models, with nice player likeness, however the pitch looks rubbish. Also player textures are very bright and garish.

FIFA has good models, with good player likeness, but the pitch and textures look better than PES, in comparison to PES FIFA looks more like a real broadcast.

Animations:

PES animations are rubbish, players run and walk very clunky, like robots, and transition from run to shoot is none existent. What is good is the celebrations, and linesman and ref animations. I especially like that the linesman will raise his flag for an offside, and refs will point to where they want the kick taken. Playing PES reminded me a lot of playing Virtual striker way back on the Dreamcast.

FIFA has much better animations though, running, dribbling, shooting, all look more fluid and realistic compared to PES. And the transition is also better.

Features:

PES has always come off worse than FIFA in the past for features, however a demo is a demo and shows nothing of the features.

Gameplay:

Okay, so FIFA looks better, but it’s all about gameplay really, and since PES has been around it’s always been the better game, a more true interpretation of football. FIFA was always that crappy arcadey game. So that’s all that matters, is that PES is better than FIFA and that’s it, right?

No. Because PES fundamentally hasn’t changed since it’s first inception back in 2001, it wasn’t perfect then, and it isn’t now. Playing PES 08 you still see the glaring inconsistencies that bugged you in the first game. I was able to run from one box to the other without being challenged because the 3 defenders in front of me were more interested in bunching up than closing down. Reality would predict me to blast a shot that would at least challenge the keeper, but in PES if there’s a defender in front of you it doesn’t matter how far away he is, he will block that shot 90% of the time. Forward runs just don’t happen, Players will either stand offside for ages or trot back to cover your position.... Defenders don’t defend realistically, and attackers don’t attack realistically.

In contrast FIFA was dire, but has gotten better and better in the last few renditions. The game plays much more like a real game of football than PES ever did. So while it took 7 years for this moment to arrive, PES has finally been utterly and totally beaten in terms of a football simulation. Everything about it has become arcadey. FIFA has been challenging PES for the last few years, and it is a better game. The old arguments don’t play out anymore. PES is not more fluid, it’s not more realistic, and it’s not a ‘better’ game.

I really, really doubt that somehow. FIFA 07 was an incredible improvement over the shocking FIFA 06 ill admit, but PES 6 still kicked its ass. I reckon FIFA 08 will be even better than 07, but im my book, PES will always dominate. Im also glad it hasn't changed, it keeps what makes it exellent.

I've played the FIFA08 demo and it's not even close to PES4 nevermind PES6/PES2008. The only good features are the ones stolen from PES, notice they've backtracked back to 8-dir movement. The through balls are gimmicky and a joke. ISS2000 (or something) tried a similar type of system and failed. The shooting just feels wrong.

If you walked from one box to the other, did you have it on Easy? I can't do that with a defender at all in PES6, I'd easily lose posession before I got just over the half-way line, so I can't see how that's a glaring incosistency that's bugged us since the 1st game.

I can only judge from the PC version of FIFA08, and the graphics on it aren't great. The demo was locked at a low resolution, and you can see all the cuts in the pitch where the textures have been applied.

Well try the 360 version as it's a totally different game engine.

And I've not played PES on anything but the hardest difficulty (when unlocked) since PES2.

Just installing it now. I've heard pretty mixed thoughts about it so far. I'm hoping it plays more like PES6 did on the PC and PS2 last year. Wasn't a fan of the 360 version at all really.

Edit - Just played a couple of games. Not impressed at all. I swear the series is going backwards now. Maybe it's just me, but nearly all of the new animations look terrible, and the way the ball behaves is just bizzare. Feels like one of those plastic air-floaters, especially when you play the it in the air :|. Don't think I'll be picking this one up.

I've played 2 games now. I loved PES6 and have bought every game in the series since ISS Pro 98 (?) before they changed the name.

Now the players run like cartoon idiots, but I think it's partly because the camera's so zoomed in. You can get the Wide view in replay mode and it looks a little better, more like PES6, but they definately look more cartoony with huge hands. Look at the size of their wrists in replay mode. The animations and body models are terrible. The only models that look about "right" are the goalkeeper models.

The ball physics seem faked... too fast and weightless somehow. Everything in general seems way too fast.

Totally ****ing disappointed. I've liked every PES in the series so far. Hopefully the PS2 version will be decent, although I hate playing it on the PS2 since it's faster to load on the PC and I can watch TV at the same time.

I seriously blame the 360 a little bit. The controller setup is based on the 360 controller now too. This suggest they built it for the 360 then prted to the PS3 + PC.

Well at least now you know what I was on about when I slagged the 360 version off :(

To top it all off here's my first goal:

The ball glitches through his left foot while doing a feint before scoring. Stuff like that happened in PES6 but to me it wasn't as noticeable.

EDIT: Just noticed that as he pulls back his right foot to feint, his right foot goes THROUGH THE ****ING GROUND. What a joke. That NEVER happened in PES6. They have less than a month to fix all this crap. More like 2 weeks before it goes gold.

Its only a demo, all PES demos I have played have been nothing compared to final product. Thats why I just dont bother with demos, but read the reviews of the final product.
