Peter Molyneux apologises for making up features!

Actually it's why I want to rip his face off.

Meh... he had a fantastic thing going with Black and White and really let it flop. I haven't had a lot of appreciation for him since Black & White 2 came along.

Respect -100%

Telling people about features that you're trying out during development, but which dont make the final cut is one thing. This is just some malicious bullshit.

YOU CAN'T CONTROL THE DOG.

Think about that.

I find it kinda funny how he apologizes only to the team, rather than to all the consumers who bought his products.:p

Isn't this pretty much a repeat from every post-release period of each of his games lately?

Fable 1 release... [/trust]

>to the team

And a Molyneux game was never bought by me again.

Yeah I feel sorry for the team, having to not develop all those features he promised so they could not deliver on them.

What an asshole.

Assuming thats sarcasm, how would you like it if your boss said you'll do something to an investor or something, and then told you not to do it? When the guy says a game will have some feature, its assumed that the company is the one who failed to deliver it, not just Peter Molyneux. I worked for a place where my bosses lied to our investor and it put the burden on us to continue hiding the lie until either the boss grew a pair and told the truth (IE: never) or the whole thing blew up with all sorts of drama.

If you're in the company, or the industry, then yeah, it's assumed that it's a group effort. As far as the media and the public are concerned, it's the fault of the spokesperson/lead.

Someone segue this to ken levine. Although he never got specific with his boasting

John Romero's about to make you his bitch.

Well, only to people who know who Peter Molyneux is. The vast majority of gamers will hear of all the failed promises, and assume the company that made it is at fault.

Even if that weren't the case, its still lost sales over his lies, which is probably lost pay for the team.

Fair point. I still feel like it would have been more appropriate to issue the apology to his customers, considering they're by and large the ones reading this. If he'd felt sorry towards the team, he should've settled that with them. Reading a "sorry" in Eurogamer years on probably isn't going to do much for them.

Agreed. It's a fair point, but I'm one of the people he directly advertised to, E3 after E3. It's just insulting for him to publicly apologise to his team and not his consumer base. I'd say this even goes beyond simply being a PR asshat, it shows a total lack of consideration for the people he knowingly lied to.

Oh, I agree entirely. He owes an apology to everyone, and his customers more than all. I just thought the sarcasm was an implication that he didn't need to apologize to his team. My mistake if that wasn't what you meant.

I stand by my love for good ol' Pete. He's passionate about what he does - and his games are approachable and fun.

In fact, his projects are more interesting than Valve's Left4DotA3: More Portals Edition. He's always been humble - just damn proud about what Lionhead does. Nerdragers on the internet, pressers and various convention goers seem to eat up everyone else' bullshit like it's Turkish Delight. Remember when people cared about Bulletstorm?

How's the revolutionary gameplay of Age of Conan?

**** it. Fable is fun.

^ Humble? Nope. Fable was pretty fun though.

Honestly I wasn't really thinking about the team when I wrote that post. Sometimes my sarcasm just goes off like a loaded gun and innocent people get caught in the crossfire. :(

Watch him in video. He's proud, his demeanor is upright and perhaps hyperbolic, but rarely does he appear boastful or arrogant. The furor, quite frankly, seems more trite and pathetic than the supposed lies that spawned it.

"Supposed" lies? He just ****ing admitted to them. I don't understand what you're trying to defend.

...that in the grand scale of things, the lies are a drop in the proverbial bucket of amoral marketing, and I still appreciate him as a developer. I should have been more clear, you're right.

I keep getting these Watergate vibes when I read threads about Peter Molyneux, and I find it disconcerting. To me, it's a "choose your battles" kind of deal, and my ultimate consensus is that I accept his apology and was never really offended in the first place.

But he wasn't apologizing to you or any of us. That's why we're so put off by it.

Well I do appreciate the upset - I understand it.

I guess it was a bit egocentric to inject my own sense of uncaring into the thread before more thoroughly viewing opinions in the press/thread.

I won't further derail this, so in lieu of that: I enjoy the antics (or debauchery) of Peter Molyneux. I guess it's my version of guilty tabloid-style reading, I admittedly am amused at the repeated displeasure experienced by followers of his games. Sadistic? absolutely - I'll try to be more honest about it from now on. Sorry for my brashness and trollishness.

I'm on the fence on this little debacle. His games come off as really good review wise, and I think his bar is too high for his games, but thats a good high. Its always good to try to do more than your supposed to and thats where innovation comes along. On the other hand promising this and that is really annoying. I personally believe he just thinks aloud and we all do that from time to time but maybe he needs to learn how to keep things to himself

He needs to retire. He's done nothing useful since before Fable.

Fable makes itself at this point.

Thats because he sets them there by lying about his games.

Except he is "supposed" to be doing what he tells us hes doing. He isn't, and thats the problem.

I'm pretty the blurb on the back of each Fable box has been the same. CHOICES, GOOD OR EVIL? CHOOSE YOUR DESTINY!

I am not sure where I stand on the Fable series, I own all the titles on the XB platforms, but they've mainly been purchases for me because I know I somewhat enjoy them as a temporary time-waster waiting for a truly good game to come out.

Except for Fable 1 which I bought because I had bought into all the hype from back when it was called Project EGO.

In this particular conversation thread Samon belittles a popular game franchise and people explain their distaste towards Lionhead developer Peter Molyneux for failing to deliver on promised features.

Whats with people doing this in several threads all of the sudden? Usually the "ITT: " posts are sarcastic or otherwise mocking of the situation, but the last several I've seen posted on hl2.net are just summaries of exactly what happened with no humor or purpose. Do you not realize that Samon knows he is belittling a popular game franchise? Do you not realize that people know that what they are doing in this thread is saying they dont like Molyneux? Posts like that are supposed to be clever posts to make people realize they're doing something odd. Your posts doesn't point out anything people don't already know. Its completely worthless. Its like watching a baseball game and when a guy strikes out you say "he struck out by getting three strikes." Worthless.

Anyways, I only bought Fable 1 and 2. I liked 1 decent enough, though I never though it was really anything to write home about. Fable 2 I played for a few hours before I got caught up trying to get money by playing those shitty, shitty minigames which made me lose all interest rather quickly.

He admitted to outright lying about features in his games? **** you Peter you ****ing asshole.

I hope your son thinks you're a ****ing douche and likes Half-Life 3 more than any of your shitty deception infused games.

Was that too harsh?

In this post Karnn expresses his distaste over an internet forum trend he considers pointless and redundant, inquires about one specific instance of it, and uses a baseball analogy to reinforce his point.

In this particular post BroHickCrab expresses great pleasure over Karnn72 having been trolled by Sheep-Oh and he then proceeds to get a physical sensation as a result of the sexual pleasure from the event.
