Petition for Creative Writing Forum

This is a petition for a Creative Writing forum. I've seen a lot of fanfics, and heard many people say that they could write or storytell, yet there isn't an outlet for these things. Posting in other forums is impolite, imo, unless it's in off-topic, which doesn't work for HL2 fanfics. If you have any other work you would love the great HL2.net community to see, that's just too bad.

If you want to see a Creative Writing forum, vote "yes" and post a bit about why you want this to happen.





And if this is already in the works, I beg forgiveness, Mods.

The mods stand as silent as VALVe on HL2 on this one Draklyne. (excepting Chris_D, he supports this)

Me and TheOtherGuy have made our fanfics and posted it on HL2 discussion and they WON'T EVEN MAKE IT A STICKY, though I have asked them countless times. I've even stopped posting mine while they don't do something.
For the while I'm posting mostly on PlanetHalflife's and others Fanfic dedicated forums.

Your post made me lol. I am sufficiently smart to know that you wouldn't care if I leave or not.
I said that I posted my stories on PHL and others because they have a Fanfic forum.
My stories are temporarly absent if that's what you're talking about. They'll return when the FanFic Forum is up. No need to worry.

Well if its not popular enough it'll end up like the marketplace thread. If you guys who want it can prove how popular it could be, I'm sure Munro will sort something out for you. But if its just a few people interested then it likely wont happen

Personally I ain't bothered either way, wouldn't hurt to have one wouldn't hurt not to. I guess since Chris is up for it he could moderate it for you guys. Might keep him out of HL2 Discussion and out from under my feet j/k

Naa but really.. If you can prove its a popular idea and that people would treat it right and keep things clean then it'll probably happen

Don't forget we did try at one point, before the forum was upgraded, but clone threads got really bad with it. But thats sorted now and not a problem anymore. The only thing stopping there being one is well, just waiting for proof its worth having I guess.

Actually, all of the staff were supportive of it. It's just that Munro decided to ignore the PM, e-mail and two threads I made about it in our private staff forum.

Which is a shame, because I do really like the idea and think it would be good all round because we'd have people from other forums coming to look at it and contribute to it too.

Can we all please spam Munro?

Munro didn't ignore it, there just wasn't that much of a call for it, and if there was, it wasn't really shown to be many interested. One or two wouldn't be enough to warrent it. Ten or more, with so many users joining and contributing on a daily basis. That will be enough to get one. I'd bet money on it

If these guys can show with real figures that it will bring in a lot of users. I'm sure Munro will go for the idea of it.


Best way is have all those who want a special section for it to post in this thread and vote on the poll saying so. Spamming Munro will probably end up just pissing him off. I know it would me heh. But post in here and vote then its not easily going to be ignored by anyone.

And I'll vote yes. To show I'm not such an Ogre

He hasn't said anything to me at all on the subject. Therefore he's ignored it. Has he said anything at all in relation to that above thread I made above in IRC or anything?

In that thread there's at least 6 staff members that are up for the idea. In the fan fic thread in HL2 Discussion there'll be another load too because there was only one negative comment about the whole thing in that thread.

I was only joking about spamming Munro obviously.

I haven't seen fanfics mentioned in IRC. But Munro said he would be in there at around 1 tomorrow. So you can always pop in and ask him directly


As I say, best way is to get all the supporters posting in this thread. If they can't come together and do that then it'll just give the impression a special fanfic section would be equally devoid of life

Tell ya what. Get them all to post their fanfics in this thread too. So everyone can see just how many are interested in doing this, actually doing this, writing fanfics. Granted there's a number of people who would like to read them, but you need a lot of people writing them to make it interesting, otherwise its one or two fanfics every few months. Rest of the time probably off-topic threads or silence :\

Well if I was running things I'd want it all wrapped up in a tidy package and presented to me as the full solid proof in a readable and simple to understand form and making things like how popular it would become quite visible, it would show effort had gone into it and make me think "well hey, if they've gone to all this trouble to get it, then maybe, just maybe they'll go to the same amount of trouble if I give it to them"

There's no harm in trying right? Worst he can say is no, but atleast you tried and know for sure then. If ya'll do that I'll make sure he gives you a fair and honest reply. Even if I have to pester him at work to get it

It will dilute the forums. How wide spread to we need to get? Shouldn't this sort of stuff belong on a completely different website all together? How is this relevant to HL2 or the community?

Sprafa, Zerimski is an admin so he can change his title etc. Starmonkey and Munro have custom titles too.

phantom, there's a lot of people in our HL2.Net community that like the idea of this, and I'm sure if it got posted on PHL etc. that other people from other communities might come along either to read or contribute.

Then again, it could just turn out like the Marketplace idea and be a bit of a flop, but I think it will get some interest for a bit.



EDIT: Also, I might add, that it won't just be a forum on any creative writing on any subject, it would have to be purely on the Half-Life world. Therefore it would be relevant to this site and community.

It would be a nice forum but would it be used? If I see a few more people posting fan fics in the HL2 forum then I'll create one but at the moment there just isn't the demand needed.

Well...you're right there are only 2 fanfics....
Maybe for now it is better to leave it like it is.
But when HL2 comes out and everyone starts writing about those little loose ends and unfinished stories I guess you should make one.

I'd allow it, I'm pretty sure Farrowlesparrow wouldn't mind too much, and Sgt.Igneri seems to be pretty indifferent to most everything . The art forum's been pretty slow lately anyhow so some creative writing might be just the thing it needs to "spice" it up. Go ahead and post anything you want to in there(within reason) for now and tell all your CR Cult buddies they can too .
