D3pth over at Planet Half-Life has kindly let us know about a pristine new interview he conducted with a few members of the Eternal Silence 2 team at this year's Game Developer's Conference. The interview covers a lot of interesting ground, and certainly isn't your run-of-the-mill Q&A session. An excerpt:

Rex: Most "next generation" mods don?t get released because of this ridiculous focus on art. I mean we?ve got Half-Life 2 mods sending out
press releases and organizing themselves like commercial developers, trying to compete with professionals in terms of content. They build up
this giant amount of hype and then can rarely, if ever, live up to the expectations that result from it.
[br]That surely is a quote likely to be heralded as truth by certain members of our forum community! Head on over to the interview to read the rest of it, and remember to say a prayer of thanks to the Half-Life gods for the general awesomeness of our collective community.

Shields? Destruction from fighters effecting those in combat inside the ships? The ES2 team is certainly ambitious.

Now, about that October release date...

God-damn you Ennui!

Was just going to post this!

I'm quick on the draw son! I posted that news at 6:37 in the morning local time.

Sounds pretty much like commercial developers themselves... They build the hype, then let everybody down. Whats so special about mod teams doing the same thing...

Seriously, they should be more worried about the commercial devs doing this. After all, you're paying for their product.
