The Asus PhysX Card looks like it will be ready for release soon. What is a PhysX card? It's a piece of hardware dedicated to processing physics information for games, taking the load off the CPU. Most modern PC games have extremely complex and detailed physics modelling, and Ageia have developed a technology for processing this information separately and hence allowing faster performance in games. So it looks like soon we may have yet another component we'll have to buy for our systems to be able to run games in all their glory!

besides unreal 3 what engines can benefit from it?

good find

i read it before.
is it saying that only unreal3 engine is for UT2007 and all of those other games are on differnet engines?
or does it mean those are all unreal3 engines?

*feels like a n00b*

Yes. ....

Its going to be a fair while before those that own this will notice more than a 10fps difference, surely?
How far do you guys reckon this will go? PPU, AIPU, and then the new dedicated sound card accelerators- who needs a CPU? lol

anyone have any idea on the cost of one of these? and I'm wondering is it going to be PCI exclusive?

I believe it's oringally coming out on PCI than going over to express.

yea from the look of the pics its pci but later they could put it on pci-e 1x or something like that

that's good, since I have free PCI slots, but only one PCIe 16x slot

isn't pci 1x like the same as a regular PCI slot?

Cool, but I think I'll wait to buy this untill games come out that can actually use it.

pci-e 1x is ALOT smaller than regular pci.

I have a question. This PhysX card thing is only for PCI? Not PCI-X because then you would have to change your GFX card around again?

hopefully this will be as big for gaming as "3d graphics accelerator cards" were....

Source Engine Update hopefully in the future for this hardware!

Pci-Express motherboards usually come with a Pci, Pci-Express 1x, and Pci-Express 16x.
Graphic cards use 16x.
I know my A8N-SLI came with 2 Pci-Express 1x, 2Pci-Express x16, and 3 Pci.

They will release a Pci version first, then later a Pci Express 1x version.

Thanks...what about AGP Motherboards?

umm PCI is on every motherboard agp is only meant for gfx cards and thats all

Nice that it's coming out so soon. Wonder how wide spread it will get for support.

PCI-Express is a completely different type of slot than PCI or AGP. It only shares the name 'PCI' and that is where it stops. That's why PCI-E 1x isn't the same thing.
Also PCI-X is yet another slot (64bit PCI slot) which I know you didn't mean to refer to but rather PCI-E. ;)

but those are so rare that people soemtimes use PCI-X as PCIe.

But i'd really like to see more games with this implemented.
And i wish it was less than $100.

Will existing games be able to use this cards technology? That would be a nice add on to get some more FPS out of games, but not if it's something that's not supported yet, like the "x-ram" on some of the x-fi sound boards. Yeah you can buy it now but theres only 1 game that actually uses it.. It doesn't matter if this thing is gonna be released tomorrow if it takes a year to get games that support it.

I think theres a list at ageia.

Any game on that list will use it's physic card to optimize performance for physically simulated activity.

I've been doing research on the card for quite sometime (since it was initially announced)

Unreal 2007 + all Unreal Engine 3 based games
Plus all games using the Novadex Physics Engine will take advantage of the acceleration.

Later on (sometime through next year maybe), we may see acceleration for other Physics engines such as Havoc and Meqon, depending if its possible to create drivers for both the card and the Games/Engines
