Picking up Grenades?

Has anyone ever actually done this?
I seem to remember when I first played; a pop-up saying if you press "e" over a grenade on the ground you can pick it up and throw it back...
I have never tried it.
 
yes i have, and i do this every time i play with my own nades especially in order to prime them. if you learn the grenade timing then you can actually throw your nade on the ground pick it up and throw it towards an enemy (or approaching enemy) to where it will explode hopefully milliseconds later (if timed correctly); once you pick it up again it will explode in your hands if it is not thrown in time. this is done just so the enemy does not have enough time to react a.k.a. run away from it lol :). But picking up a nade that has been thrown by another player is very risky because you did not know if they primed it or not. Giving you a shorter time to pick it up and go through the throwing animation to send it back either to that enemy or others OR far enough so you won't get damaged AT LEAST (if it was primed or already nearing its detonation). And even if they didnt prime the nade you have no idea how long it has been in the air giving it time to tick away or if it rolled a little bit taking off your time to react also....but yes, hopefully this answers your question plus more. ;)

also, if you want to be a hero pick up a nade, and just hold it till you die; why would you do this ? say there's 2+ of you capping a flag and you don't have to time to throw it, only pick it up, so only you die, and the rest can cap ;)
 
platinum you don't have to pickup nades to prime them in DoD:S, they do so as soon as you pull the pin.
 
I think platinum knows that. But for me when I want to throw the nade so that it explodes quickly; I just hold down the mouse button for longer (about 2 -3 seconds) then release.
 
I prime, you prime, we all prime for iceprime?
Erm yea, priming is good, throwing peoples nades back is better.
 
Never threw a nade back and never saw anyone throw one back to me, my reacting when I see a nade is to run. Albeit, I could try it with rifle nades since you know that they wont explode instantly.
 
Yeah. Every time I try to return a grenade, I've died. The pick up animation takes too long. You see your weapon go down and then the grenade in your hands, then throw. And about 3 feet away, it detonates and you die. So I take what I can get. If I'm fortunate enough to see that they didn't prime the grenade, the sprint button gets a good working. Or I use that second to shoot the idiot who doesn't know how to prime the grenade, if he isn't already dead.
 
I'm damn awesome at chucking nades back at the thrower.

Unfortunately, it sometimes involves me blowing up.
 
I was always too scared to try it in a real game, so no lolz

if friendly fire is on, and i'm behind you...you will be shot for cowardice.

the "run away" people really irk me. 9 times out of 10 they turn around to run away, and run right in to me, and i'm trying to go pick the thing up and throw it back. so it then ends up killing us both as we're pulling a Keystone Cops routine.

it's not like "you only live once". ffs, you respawn again and keep playing. i'd rather die from a tk by a guy with some balls trying to toss one back than let some scrub on the other team get 2 kills...all because someone's running away like a 9 year old girl.

even if i suspect it's a primed nade i still pick it up, cuz i'd rather take the suicide than give the guy the kill.
 
I rarely run into anyone. I have never heard of your circumstance, if someone is behind me , I run over the nade instead. I simply avoid picking it up because I find it easier to just pop them in the face.
 
I think I have often have oportunities to pick up nades, but I tend to run and try and kill the thrower . Can som1 tell me if I pick up a nade and throw it back at an enemy, and it kills him; who gets the kill??
Will it be my kill, or would the it be a team kill on the enemy side. But what if ff is not on?
 
if you toss it back and get a kill...it's your kill.

if you pick it up and die...it's a suicide.

if you pick it up and kill a teammate...it's a team kill.

all 3 options are much better than just sitting there watching it blow YOU up, giving someone else the kill.
 
True, I must get into the habit of picking them up. There are some places where rifle grenades are always shot, like in choke points; the time it takes to pick them up and throw, is probably quicker than running away from a grenade that has actually hit you.
 
I prime them almost every time by throwing them on the ground and picking them up. I think I've also thrown some grenades back at the enemy in DoD:S but never gotten a kill (yet). In the original dod I remember throwing an axis grenade back in the hallway it came from, killing 4 germans.
 
I always pick them up if I'm in prone but if I'm standing I tend to start running away, since most people do cook the nades. My record is killing four teammates when picking up an enemy nade.
 
yi've managed to throw one back and kill the thrower, but usually it ends up blowing up in my face.
 
Once picked one up with about 5 teammates around me thinking right, better throw this back then huh.. BANG...

I picked it up once, when I was laying there and it fell right infront of me. Managed to toss it away, but I doubt ill do it again. I still took damage.
 
I have found it useful for using the rifle nades; I fire it into a wall, quickly pick it up then throw it in the required direction.
 
Yep, that's what I have found to work for me. Shoot a nade off a wall and then throw it. You have nades with 2 uses, short range and long range. Nifty.
