Ping problems

Recently decided to try rates that are higher than normal, and it ****ed up everything, I get 30-40ms for example, and the menu shows 70, before I connect, the server may state 50 ping but when I get inside, it's more like 120. Then, after playing for one minute (sometimes two) everything stops and I'm frozen except I can look around and see everyone else not moving.. then I alt+tab out and my computer tells me it lost connection to the phone line..

I've fixed all of the settings back and I'm still getting ****ed up hangups like this... what's wrong?

Check the CS:S FAQ on www.steampowered.com. They have a "rate.cfg" you can download which binds five different network settings to your F2 key. Every time you hit your F2 key it changes to a different connection type. I think they go from Slow-Normal-Fast-Blazing-Lan Speeds. Pick one that gives you consistent zeros in Loss and Choke which you can check using cl_netgraph 3. If that doesn't help, perhaps there's a problem with a router/switch/server at your ISP.
