A new MMO that's being released. I'm getting this one. Pirates ****ing own.

You can build your own ships, make your own flags, sail the open sea with your guild, take over other ships... /orgasm.

F*ck yes. HL2.net ship, anyone? Imagine it- sailing the high seas with all your scurvy dog friends from the site. F*cking WIN.

Indeed. Pirates rule and its high time someone create a game like this. This is the sort of MMO I might actually play!

Luckily the thing you'll be seeing most is the sea, because the rest is ****ing UGLY!

good idea though. Not into MMO's. Is it a monthly subscription?

wow ! Sexeh as ! Depending on this turns out i'll probably add this to my collection for sure, would be amazing fun if done right :D

Looks great. btw i'm a 56ker, these images loaded rather quick to be honest.

Isn't that the game that uses the Source engine? I remember a magazine article about hl and valve where it was mentioned this game as one of the games that are using Source. In fact I remember asking about the game after I read the article.

I'm not into MMO's, but I am getting this one.

Isn't that the game that uses the Source engine?
No they are using an activision engine. However it will be distributed over Steam.
"1.09 Who is the publisher?
We are financing and publishing Pirates of the Burning Sea ourselves.
1.10 How will the game be distributed?
We are using Valve's new Steam technology to distribute the game entirely online. There will be no retail box in stores. Steam handles purchasing, subscriptions, logins, progressive content downloads, and upgrades. Go to www.steampowered.com for more information.
1.11 Will there be versions for other platforms?
None are currently planned.
1.12 What graphics engine are you using for the game?
We are using Activision's Alchemy engine."

is there a monthly fee?
1.08 What does it cost?
We have not yet decided our pricing structure, but it will be comparable to other games in the genre.

I might do a prepaid thing for a couple of months (if they do decide to charge you per month), but as I have said, no matter how good a game is, it will never be worth a monthly fee.

Distribution over steam is a major plus.

/me shudders at the thought of shipping livestock on our ship with crewman Ikerous on board.

I've been somewhat following this for a long while, it's had me interested since i first heard about it.
I'm hoping so bad it's not a pay monthly thing, but we all know it will be :(
Sound awesome though, would be fun to cruise around the ocean in our HL2.net fleet :P

But think of the tonnes and tonnes of spices, sugar, and gold we could trade for the video tapes! There's a market for everything, and some people are willing to pay the price.

I've been anticipating this game since before I even heard of half-life 2.

I've been anticipating this game since anything was first known about it.

I've been anticipating this game longer than you all.

:bonce:

Listen people, it doesn't matter if this monthly pay or not, it is our destiny to rule those mother****ing seas! We'll amass the largest fleet in the entire game and totally just **** everyone's day up. EVERYDAY. HOO-AH.

Well, I was already waiting for Vanguard... but f*ck me the idea of a HL.net ship sounds awesome.

The flag's gotta be gordon's head with an eyepatch over two crossed crowbars, skull n' crossbones style, then I'm definitely in :D

Wait, so a single ship can be 'used' by multiple people doing multiple things ? hot damn, i'm so going to keep up with this game again.. even if you can't, i <3 pirates though i hope there is no monthly fee. :x

i think the crew on the ships are npc controlled. which makes sense because there would be lots of captains and not too many poop deck scrubbers. but i think i'd personally go for the navy captain profession. looks like fun.

I might, might even get this if it's P2P, if others join in and play some good things. But that's only if it ain't too expensive and keep getting my EMA

You cannot have multiple people on one ship. When you are at sea... your ship is your avatar.

And any flag content and stuff must be approved. They likely wouldn't approve anything like Gordon. Almost guaranteed.

Pff, I'm out. Vanguard has ships already, AND you can have others aboard. AND it has ship-to-ship combat (I think... atleast they were adding it at some stage).

Also cool things like druids can manipulate the wind while on board to give you a boost of speed :)

Well there you go... If you want druids, do that. Burning Sea isn't a high fantasy game... and is based in the realities of the early 1700's caribbean.

*shrugs* I can still be a pirate. Just a pirate with a +1 Scimitar of Slaying and rank 5 fireball.

That's what I'm getting tired of.

But seriously, it look like there's a lot of HL2 people looking to get this. Imagine:

Sid Meier's Pirates... in an MMO. Win.
